ROSSA TO BOSSA
⭕ 4.53 Salisbury today Rossa Raheen improved significantly on her handicap debut at Newbury to finish a neck second to Brighton View.
It was no surprise to see her go off at 22/1 that day having only showed a modicum of promise in her first three starts. She also looked an incredibly unlucky loser having run out of room two furlongs out and needed to be checked.
She’s up one pound for that effort and should be able to improve enough to cope with the one step up in grade.
The Betdaq Betting Exchange market is suggesting it’s a match between her and Morven but the race looks a little deeper than that to me.
Morven won at Haydock as a two-year-old before disappointing at Pontefract when last of five, beaten 24 lengths, in a Listed contest. She was beaten a head at Wolverhampton in May and that should have put her right for this one.
At bigger odds David Pipe saddles Affection for the first time. The grey filly joined the yard from France where she won four of her 10 races so clearly has ability and on testing ground too.
Rossa Raheen looks the percentage call though and is my Tuesday nap.
EEVEE TO STAR
⭕ 6.42 Carlisle I’ll take a chance here by opposing the likely odds-on favourite Rock Steady Beat with Eevee Star in what could be a match that looks a lot closer than the betting is implying.
The Karl Burke trained Rock Steady Beat holds an entry for the Two Year Old Trophy at Redcar later in the year and will need to win this well to remain on target. He showed promise on his York debut when fifth but seemed short on stamina in the closing stages and that might be accentuated today over the more demanding Carlisle contours.
Eevee Star achieved just as much on debut for my money – finishing third at Ripon – with the penny only dropping late on. I think she’ll come on plenty for that run. The price differential (at 11am) of 1.79 v 4.4 means I can only play this one way.
SDS POETRY
⭕ 8.21 Brighton Silvestre De Sousa has done well since his return to the UK (Leicester double yesterday) and can land this six furlong handicap with Poetic Grace.
The Conrad Allen trained runner is worth a try over the sprinting distances having showed placed form over further and given we are racing at helter-skelter Brighton it shouldn’t make a dramatic difference.
