LOOKING AT LINGFIELD: It has been a quiet week for me after arriving back from the Asian Racing Conference during the week. It was an excellent week for me, and I really enjoyed the experience of being over there.
It was an incredibly interesting trip for me, and I met some wonderful people who do great work for the world of racing. Now that I am home it is nice to recharge the batteries for a bit. It has given me time to catch up on all the racing at home, and I am really looking forward to this weekend’s racing, looking at a couple of horses in particular.
LOOKING BACK AT MEYDAN
Frosted had a great win yesterday, which everybody involved with him will be incredibly pleased with. Not only that, but he set the course record around Meydan which is incredible. He had a nice lay off after an impressive introduction, where he won easily enough. After winning these two races, he will be going forward to race in the World Cup. For me the race yesterday was a vcery exciting one to watch, and Frosted certainly looks like a top quality horse.
Another one I had looked at yesterday was Ertijaal, who won the sprints race under Paul Hanagan. This was a very impressive win for me, because he sat in the outside for a lot of the race and had no cover, but still won the race pretty easily. After a run like this I am really looking forward to seeing Ertijaal run again in the future. Between him and Frosted I think we saw two very good horses that are definitely worth keeping an eye on in going forward.
SATURDAY AT LINGFIELD
Looking at today’s racing, there is one I like in the 3:05 called Project Bluebook. He ran first time out at Wolverhampton and got a really good ride which watching the replay of the race, I think he would have learnt a lot from the race. I think the favourite in this race is really awkward. One I think could also do well in this would be David Simcock’s horse, Ms Gillard
The first one here I am looking at tomorrow is the Cleves Stakes at 1:45. This one is a 6 furlong listed race and has some good horses running. There is one horse in particular I like in this one from South Africa called Cold As Ice. He had his first run out ion Wolverhampton and finished second, one where I think he just needed the run. He then went on to win well at Chelmsford which would have given her confidence for sure. I really like this race for her in Lingfield tomorrow. She has got plenty of boot, and I think for a race that sets up to have a lot of pace will suit her very well as she looks to be a horse that would be better not to need to make a run in to win the race.
I also like Festive Fare in the Winter Derby Trial Stakes. He won at Lingfield first time out, which shows he should run well on this track. He also won well at Wolverhampton his last time out in a very different way. His third win also came on the all weather track, where he is three out of three so this ground is obviously very favourable for him. There is a couple of others in the race that I like and could cause Festive Fare trouble, but I think he is a slightly better quality horse and should get a fourth win from four on the all weather.
Captain Cat is a horse that I like, I really enjoy the way that he rides, but it is not really one I would place any money on. Lamar is another one in here, who I actually tipped a few weeks back but he was pretty disappointing. I think he is a good horse still, but I would stay away from him in this one because I feel he should have been given a rest. Obviously since I tipped him a couple of weeks back he has not had that rest, so I think it would be one to avoid.
I think the main challenger to Festive Fare would be Grendisar, he won this race last year. He’s got a good turn of foot for a big horse, and this was a pretty slow run race last year which I think could play to his strenghts and he has been running well on the all weather for the last couple of years so he would be the biggest threat I think.
TURNING TO SANDOWN
Lizzie Kelly is riding Treat For Two tomorrow at Sandown, who she has won on before. I am really hoping she can win back to backs, but it is a very competitive Group One race this time and I think she might struggle. I hope she doesn’t, I would love to see her winning it, but it is a very strong race so she will find the going tough.
