PINCH, PUNCH FIRST DAY OF THE MONTH: And SHAMROCK reckons the best bet of the day runs in the first race at Navan on Saturday.

Well the first thing to say about the opener at Navan today is that there is no Willie Mullins trained runner. So breathe easy.

There is however a strongly fancied Gigginstown House Stud runner in the form of Halling’s Treasure who is trained by Gordon Elliott.

He was a winner when trained on the flat by Andrew Balding and has since run three creditable races over hurdles in what looked, on balance, better class races than today.

He has finished placed on all occasions, most recently when second at Fairyhouse behind Shantou Ed who did little to advertise the form next time up – but in fairness it was in a Grade 3 over a mile further so we can’t take that form line too literally.

Biggest danger could be Kitten Rock who finished second in a Longchamp claimer on the flat.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Halling’s Treasure.
