TWO OUT OF THREE AIN’T BAD…. sang Meat Loaf. SHAMROCK felt the same way yesterday after landing two of his three bets at the Curragh.
A profitable day yesterday thanks to the success of next best Ernest Hemingway (WON 6/4) who repeated his success in the At The Races Curragh Cup and then then my lay bet Ebanoran was unplaced at 5/4.
Unfortunately though, I was let down by my nap, Ambivalent, who could only finish fourth having led in the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes.
It was yet another red letter day for trainer Aidan O’Brien who had the first four winners on the card. Even the three-way bob in the Grangecon Stud Stakes went his way with I Am Beautiful winning by a short head and a nose.
O’Brien already has his sights set on this weekend’s big race, the Eclipse at Sandown.
He is likely to have two runners, War Command and Verrazano as he seeks a sixth win in the race.
Both his runners also ran at Royal Ascot. War Command finishing when fourth to Kingman in the St James’s Palace Stakes and Verrazano who was second to Toronado in the Queen Anne Stakes, the opening race.
Irish racing resumes with a seven race card on the flat at Gowran Park on Tuesday evening.
