TIARA TEAM CONSIDERING APPEAL: Connections of Special Tiara are still considering appealing the decision of the Sandown Park stewards in Saturday’s Tingle Creek Chase.
The book might not yet be closed on Saturday’s Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown which saw Special Tiara clobbered at the final fence by Sire De Grugy who went on to win the Grade 1 contest by three parts of a length.
Special Tiara’s owner Sally Rowley-Williams will decide later this week whether to lodge an appeal. She said yesterday: “Everything is still being considered. I believe we have seven days to decide, but we won’t leave it that long. We’ll make a decision by the end of the week. I’m having discussions with my solicitor and we’re waiting for some data to come back.”
The decision certainly went against the majority of the Sandown Park crowd whose boos were heard loudly when the “result stands” came over the tannoy, however Sire De Grugy was always long odds-on to keep the race on the re-opened market on BETDAQ and many would consider him to be so again to keep the race at an appeal.
I napped Special Tiara (so take that in mind) but I thought it was a very harsh decision. I think the interference DID equate to more than the three parts of a length he was beaten by and if the same interference had happened half way up the run-in there would be have been an amended result – so what’s the difference?
Meanwhile, news that Navan’s meeting that fell victim to Storm Desmond over the weekend has been rescheduled for next Monday.
