SUNDAY SPECIAL IS SEABASS: The popular 12-year-old won over hurdles at Thurles yesterday.
Seabass rolled back the years to win over hurdles at Thurles yesterday.
The old warrior, who finished third in the 2012 Grand National was again partnered by Katie Walsh and defied odds of 20/1 to win the David O’Halloran Memorial Rated Novice Hurdle over 2m 6f.
Trainer Ted Walsh beamed after the race: “This is as good a day as I’ve ever had! He’s some horse and is part of the household at this stage. He’s had more trouble than ten horses but Ruby rode him the last day and said he galloped away and that there was life in the old dog yet. He’s rated 140 over fences so where would you go with him but he got into this and I was just hoping he’d show a bit of spark. If he never again sees a racecourse, I’m delighted!”
No joy with the nap who could only finish fifth in the closing bumper, but I’m recharging the batteries ahead of the busy Festive period.
TOMORROW: The Irish Challenge on the King George at Kempton.
