DOUBLE IRISH ACTION FROM PUNCHESTOWN AND CORK: Two meetings on Sunday with the feature races being the John Durkan Memorial Chase at Punchestown and the Kerry Group Hilly Way Chase at Cork.

Two excellent cards in Ireland on Sunday to look forward to.

2.00 Punchestown

John Durkan Memorial Punchestown Chase (Grade 1)

Willie Mullins has won two of the last three renewals including with Djakadam who stormed home for a 12 length success last year and is likely to go off favourite to repeat the feat.

He went on to finish creditable seconds in the Cheltenham and Punchestown Gold Cups.

He seems to need it bottomless to show his best form but his run behind Don Cossack at Cheltenham when the going was good suggests he is versatile – even so, any rain before race time will be a positive.

Willie Mullins runs three of the five runners including Black Hercules who hasn’t raced since winning the JLT Novices’ Chase at the Cheltenham Festival and he could chase Djakadam home.

2.15 Cork

Kerry Group Hilly Way Chase (Grade 2)

This shouldn’t take too much previewing. Douvan has the perfect ’10 from 10′ record and is taking a drop in class !!

After five Grade 1 victories in a row Willie Mullins has dropped him to a Grade 2 for his first race since winning the Ryanair Novice Chase at Punchestown in April.

He is priced prohibitively in the market – and I would suggest too prohibitively given he has to concede 8lb to Gilgamboa who is rated 10lb inferior.

If the ratings are to be believed that would bring it closer than the market would suggest and I will be playing Gilgamboa on the BETDAQ place market at better odds (and value IMO) than Douvan is on the win market.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
