FIFTY UP! AND 134 POINTS AHEAD OF PRICEWISE: Daqman yesterday made it 50 feature-race wins for the season in big handicaps and stakes races chosen by Pricewise of the Racing Post. Daqman now leads 50-19, with 71 points profit to single-unit level stakes at SP. Pricewise is minus 63 points.
DAQMAN’S FLYING IN PURSUIT OF BIG WINNERS: Daqman’s Saturday winners, which included Flying Pursuit (WON 9-1), were again notable for the massive morning value in BETDAQ offers (see Friday and Saturday below). His best returns per race yesterday were 21132112, with a 12-1 Fortune Cookie beaten a neck.
MORE BETDAQ VALUE IN WEEK OF TWO FESTIVALS: Goodwood in England and Galway in Ireland are on together next week, so more big value is guaranteed. The ground has eased and the sun’s coming back, just right for big fields and bags of hot competition. Tomorrow is Daqman’s preview day.
HIDDEN HORSE LANDS A GAMBLE
It was music to your ears. ‘I hear a whisper for Walkman,’ said Daqman yesterday, with 8.6 to be had on BETDAQ in the morning.
Walkman was one of the gambles of the day, in to 5-2, with the money duly landed and the 6-4 favourite (early odds on) beaten out of the frame (did you lay it?).
It was another double whammy and another triumph for Daqman’s ‘man in the long grass,’ this one having raced only once before, fifth of six at 20-1, a truly ‘hidden horse.’
It meant that all five of Daqman’s weekend winners, Friday and Saturday, had been bigger offers before the event, as detailed in his daily column:
Daqman Friday
WON 9-4 PRODUCTION (from 4.0 on BETDAQ)
WON 4-1 CLON COULIS (from 7.0 on BETDAQ)
Daqman Saturday
WON 9-1 FLYING PURSUIT (from 11.5 on BETDAQ):
WON 9-2 CRACK ON CRACK ON (from 8.2 on BETDAQ)
WON 5-2 WALKMAN (from 8.6 on BETDAQ)
GABR SUNDAY NAP
3.20 Deauville (Rothschild Stakes) A wide open Group 1 Rothschild Stakes at Deauville this afternoon on rain softened ground.
Aljazzi renews rivalry with Tribute Act – the pair were first and second in the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot but the winner had plenty in hand and also has form on softer ground so is fully expected to confirm the form.
A bigger danger may come though from the home trained Rosa Imperial who keeps on improving and will relish the slower ground. She won over course and distance last time out.
Mission Impassible has good place chances too after a Group 2 win last time out.
3.35 Pontefract (Pomfret Stakes) It was soft ground when Another Touch won this by a neck last year and even though the rain has arrived there might not have been enough of it for him to stage a repeat win.
The Sir Michael Stoute trained Gabr is really hard to get away from.
The stable are now 5-26 including the King George winner Poet’s Word yesterday and Gabr faces his easiest task to date in what doesn’t look the toughest Listed race.
He was far from disgraced when finishing sixth in the Group 1 St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot and his only career success to date has come with give in the ground.
Big Country was a close third in a muddling five runner Listed race at Sandown last time out and in contrast to the selection the rain may have gone against his chances.
3.55 Wolverhampton Sir Mark Prescott’s Matchmaking bids for a four-timer here and is hard to look beyond but it sets the race up nicely for a place bet.
Vampish to place is a bigger price than Matchmaking is to win and that looks a good play in this nine runner event.
