NAAS NAP AND ANOTHER DOUBLE UP: Shamrock yesterday landed his nap, Hats And Heels (WON 5-6), and had another winning double in his Daq Trio, thanks to Flemenstar (WON 6-5). There is no Irish racing until Wednesday but he looks for Irish interest today at Wolverhampton and tomorrow at Southwell.

One of the Irish lads most likely to. That’s Kildare-born Kieran O’Neill (24), who had a fine 2011 Flat season for Richard Hannon.

Formerly with Declan Gillespie and Paul Deegan before a stint in USA, his Hannon time started with a winner on only his third ride in England.

The venue that day was Wolverhampton, and here’s yer man back at that track for one ride this afternoon, Lastkingofscotland (6.4 in the 2.25), for Dubliner, Conor Dore, who now trains in Lincolnshire, NE England.

Kieran has already been booked for four rides at Kempton Park on Wednesday, two of them in Betdaq-sponsored races and three more on the London track the following day.

But his sole starter at Wolverhampton this afternoon is back among the boys and girls in the apprentice handicap (2.25), well drawn in stall 3 on a horse in the frame five times on the track.

Star riders on strike rate engaged today are (in order) Da Silva on Needwood Ridge, with a wide draw; James Rogers on Just Timmy Marcus, who hasn’t won for nearly three years; Garry Whillans on the AW maiden Smirfy’s Silver; and then Kieran.

Not far beyond, though, is Lucy Barry, defending Mark Wellings’ 100% record for 2012 so far. Yes, just one runner, one winner. I’d settle for that.

Gordon Elliott and John McConnell cross the Irish Sea with two apiece: in the 3.25 handicap, Tara Fay has her first run for Team Elliott and it seems significant that Jamie Spencer is booked: a nice 9.8.
