LET’S START AGAIN: 1,000 TIMES YES: More than 1,000 entries have been received for next Monday and Tuesday at Newcastle (369 for opening day and 265 for second eight-race card) and Tuesday at Kempton (450 entries), as English racing gets geared up for a fresh start.

THE WAY WE WERE: JUMPING PROFIT: Daqman makes the leap today from his March shutdown tipping accounts to what we want from June’s restart in this column tomorrow and Saturday: value-betting secrets and horses-to-follow Fortune Cookies.

BACK TO THE FUTURE: 2020 VISION: We were looking forward to Tiger Roll and Pinatubo. Now we have to look back at the star potential and try to fit them into a new-look Pattern and a huge early schedule of handicaps.

THE WAY WE WERE: JUMPS PROFITS

MONDAY 23 MARCH 2020: The last accounts of the Jumps season 2019-20 opened with this story of the Sunday racing returns for Daqman, followed by an update on his value bets, naps and bull’s-eye bets.

The English Flat start was extinguished and the Irish attempt to sputter on bravely was finally snuffed out. Since then, we’ve kept our hand in with French and German fare.

MONDAY 1 JUNE 2020: All we hoped for in the past for the Flat season to come – Daqman’s 2020 Vision – begins again with Classic racing in Europe and the rush to return at Newcastle and Kempton on Monday and Tuesday, with a staggering 1,085 entries for three meetings over the two days!

DAQMAN LODGES ANOTHER NATIONAL WINNER: 6-1 OVER PRICEWISE

MARCH 23: Daqman loves a National. He went for three big hits on Saturday: a Midlands National strike, a supernap and a bull’s-eye nap: the results were a 6-1 winner (for 14 points profit on the big race at Uttoxeter), an 11-10 supernap and 8-1 second for the bull’s-eye nap, beaten little more than a length. His 6-1 winner puts him 514 points ahead of Pricewise to 10-point level stakes.

WON 6-1 TRUCKERS LODGE (Midlands Grand National)
WON 11-10 ON THE SLOPES (supernap)
2ND 8-1 MUSICAL SLAVE (bull’s-eye nap)

IT’S FOLLY TO OPPOSE ZIEGFELD

⚠️ LEADING FRENCH (FLAT) TRAINERS: Jean-Claude Rouget 32; Frederic Rossi 25, Christophe Escuder 24, Christophe Ferland 24, Fabrice Vermeulen 23, Jerome Reynier 20, Francis-Henri Graffard 20, Henri-Alex Pantall on 19.

⚠️ JOCKEYS: Pierre-Charles Boudot 65, Maxime Guyon 46, Christophe Soumillon 45, Cristian Demuro 32, Anthony Crastus 29, Eddy Hardouin 27, Julien Auge 25, Axelle Nicco 20, Delphine Santiago 20.

⭕ 11.10 Clairefontaine After the usual tricky maidens, a three-year-olds conditions race over a mile, with a jockey ‘s choice deciding my bet.

The race brings out Ziegfeld (a New Approach out of an Oasis Dream mare) for Andre Fabre whose current form figures are 111100014.

Fabre takes Ziegfeld back to the scene of his sole-start success here at Clairefontaine in July 2019 over 7f. Second and third both won afterwards.

Natural Path is from another in-form yard. After a double at Vichy yesterday, Henri Francois Devin is on 10211.

But he’s been using Mickael Barzalona for his best shots, and here Mickael appears to opt for Ziegfed instead in preference to Natural Path.

⭕ 11.40 Clairefontaine The only maiden that catches my eye all day is the Frankel filly Vintern for Andre Fabre, who has just struck form with figures of 111100014 in the last four days.

To be ridden by star boy rider Alexis Pouchin, claiming 6lb, Vintern (BETDAQ 4.0) is Group-1 entered and should be good enough to beat Persia, a Siyouni filly ridden for Francis-Henri Gradfffard by Pierre-Charles Boudin.

LUCKY DEVIL NAPPED FOR FREDDY

⭕ 12.10 Clairefontaine (Prix Du Palais-Royal) Freddy Head usually saves one up for this, and he had a couple of winners at the weekend.

He’s won the Palais-Royal (when at Longchamp) with Moonlight Cloud (2012) and Polydream (2018), one of three three-year-olds to win it in the last four years.

Now here’s Freddy with the only second-season animal in the race, Devil, who won at this Group 3 level at Maisons for Maxime Guyon and was then beaten a head, giving away a 3lb penalty, in the Criterium there ( Group 2) in October.

The winner that day had been beaten only a couple of lengths in the Mill Reef Stakes so the form was solid, and Devil is value at 5.0 on BETDAQ as I write.

Spinning Memories looks the threat to Devil, who gets 6lb weight for age. But memories of this mare include her defeat in this very race, won by Hey Gaman, a year ago less a couple of days.

It was good ground that day, as it is (forecast) this afternoon and Spinning Memories, who prefers some cut, didn’t have the pace to challenge.

Pascal Bary and Christophe Soumillon no doubt see this field as lower class – with Spinning Memories clear in the ratings – but Devil and Maxime Guyon look the better bet, getting two years from the mare as well as weight.

THE DAY’S WINNER FOR BOUDOT

⭕ 12.50 Clairefontaine How many will Boudot get today? That’s the talk of French racing as Pierre-Charles takes seven rides at Clairefontaine. He never seems to have a day without a winner.

The Edouard Monfort stable is in form with a week’s returns of 10130, and Tonnencourt could be fit enough first time under a Boudot drive. He’s a winner on good ground.

Only Les Vertus among the rest of the field can claim that, and Tonnencourt (BETDAQ 4.0 taken) is dropping down from two runs in which he’s finished close up in Listed class.

⭕ 5.50 Lyon-Parilly Axelle Nicco and Delphine Santiago are now among the top 10 jockeys, winner-wise. Axelle got her win yesterday but not the one I wanted. Her strike was for Marc Pimbonnet, taking his form to 10010, and putting Axelle on three wins in 10 days.

She rides the highly-rated La Fibre for the same stable in this mile handicap. La Fibre has a lot of weight but that’s because he’s dropping down in grade, and Axelle reduces the burden by 7lb. Tasty at 7.0 on BETDAQ .
