FOUR NAPS OUT OF SIX: Shamrock is once again the talk of the tipping village after yet another winning nap yesterday, his fourth from the last six to give him current results of 112101. The nap was Talkonthestreet (WON 5-6) and he completed a double of more than 7-1 with Gotoyourplay (WON 7-2).

He still has the choice of targets. That was how champion Irish trainer Willie Mullins summed up Sir Des Champs’ Cheltenham situation.

He didn’t say ‘depends where Grands Crus goes’ but, like Alan King with Invictus, he surely knows that the RSA a week today is for place money if the David Pipe favourite runs.

Could Sir Des Champs then switch to the Jewson? Isn’t he, in any case, better suited, on all known form, to the 20-furlong Jewson than the 24-plus RSA?

Sir Des Champs has won six races in succession since beating (Supreme Novices or Neptune runner) Sous Les Cieux over hurdles at Auteuil two years ago.

His three chase victories in three months, beginning at Fairyhouse in December, have destroyed reputations and sent his standing soaring to an official rating of 147, now superior to his hurdles mark.

Though three of his last four successes have been over 2m 5f, a majority of bookies make him 4 -1 and 5-1 for both RSA and Jewson.

But Betdaq gave me a chance to speculate on a Jewson bid: while actually shorter than the bookies at 5.7 for the RSA, Betdaq offers are around 16.5 for the Jewson.

The RSA ‘price’ is short against Grands Crus, Bobs Worth and Invictus, but the Jewson ’odds’ are long enough on his chances of switching to that race, for which he is only 9-2 with Betvictor.
