DAQMAN GUIDES TO A MARATHON DOUBLE: Daqman is looking for winners of two marathons in a Devon National ABC guide today and in a similar preview to the Eider Chase at Newcastle tomorrow. The first one at Exeter produces a bull’s-eye bet to win 50 points.
TWO 10-POINT BETS LOOKING FOR A NAP: Today is also the opening of the Winter Derby meeting at Lingfield, and Daqman finds a nap in the best race on the Friday card, though he’s equally keen on one at Warwick. Two 10-point bets.
AMIGOS GIVEN REAL CHANCE
⭕ 3.50 Exeter today (Devon National) Last year’s winner in a battle of courage to the line, Samuel Jackson is back for more with a fair favourite’s price.
Samuel Jackson He runs off the same mark as last year (123) but carries 4lb less in a stronger race. Weakened run-in and beaten six lengths last month in the Surrey National won by subsequent Grand National Trial winner, The Galloping Bear.
Snuff Box That’s largely due to the presence of top-weights The Two Amigos and Snuff Box, who is claimed off because up a stone for two wins since January. Modest form at Exeter (020F00).
The Two Amigos Trainer Nicky Martin has a 40% record in chases at Exeter, and his CD-winner The Two Amigos has been given a real chance by the handicapper.
Though Amigos has 11st 12lb here, he is claimed off and has been dropped 10lb from the mark he achieved for seconds just over a year ago in both the Welsh Grand National and its Trial, plus third in the Haydock Park Grand National Trial and eighth in the Midlands Grand National.
Wayfinder has run some good races at Chepstow but the handicapper is not impressed: his rating has remained on 113 for most of his starts since November, 2020.
Pemberley has threatened to win a good race but has just two strikes – one hurdle and one chase – on his CV plus second in the Sussex National.
Captain Drake, an Exeter winner before second in the Midlands Grand National (2020) and fourth in the Welsh Grand National (2021) off 140, has plunged 13lb in the ratings but needs to bounce back.
Dawson City Red Happy is only five, as opposed to Dawson City, who is 13, winner of this twice (in 2018 and 2019) and third last year.
Classic Ben A good second here at Exeter in 2020 and fourth in the London National, has not jumped well and slid 10lb down the ratings since until back to form here the last day off 122 but, taking the lead before four out, he fell three from home.
Who’s In The Box The 2020 Lincolnshire National winner was only fifth in that race in December but made favourite, third, in the North Yorkshire Grand National last month. Trainer in form.

⭕ 3.15 Newcastle, tomorrow (Eider Chase) STATS: Aged between 9 and 11 and carrying 11st 1lb or less (both apply to the last seven winners): going, good to soft.
Cash To Ash Winning form is around 3m on soft and heavy, but stepped up in trip to 4m last autumn, and second in both Scottish Borders National at Kelso (Innisfree Lad third) and Lincolnshire National at Market Rasen.
Court Master Four out of five chase wins (at up to 3m) were on top of the ground. Beaten a long way, third, on only start over a trip (3m 2f Cheltenham, Grade 3).
Danilo D’Airy Raised a total of 27lb for completing handicap-chase hat-trick between last May and just before Christmas; all types of ground but in lower grade up to 3m 1.5f.
Gwencily Berbas Best form at 3m 2f (second) and, in December, 3m 6f at Exeter (class 3; went clear) but pulled up on heavy the last day at Sandown. Not yet match Graded-hurdles form (still rated 149)
Innisfree Lad Won 2021 Staying Chase Series Final at Haydock (3m 1.5f on good) and third in the Scottish Borders National of 4m at Kelso (soft) with Cash To Ash second.
Just Your Type Second in 2019 Scottish Borders National but pulled up same race following year. Third in the 2021 Peter Marsh and fourth in the Tommy Whittle, both at Haydock on soft-heavy.
Rath Un Luir Two from three over fences, already rated well past his hurdles mark, but both wins at Carlisle on soft-heavy up to 3m.
Strong Economy Bottomweight who is Ayr regular, running their 22 times (three chase wins). Sixth in the Eider last year, and returned to form the last day, asked to race positively.
Win My Wings In first chase outside novice class, won 3m 2f mares’ handicap at Cheltenham in April (going good). Back to form at Exeter (3m soft) the last day, beating a next-time winner. Unexposed.
BET ON BRIDGE FOR THE NAP
Best of the day today? It could be Legends Ryde (BETDAQ 3.3 in the ⭕ 3.05 Warwick), back to her winning trip of 3m, and down in grade, after taking on top talent at Ascot and Lingfield, including runner-up to L’Homme Presse in December.
Eleanor Bob is on a roll but her hat-trick here depends on her stepping up class and shrugging off the handicapper’s hit of 13lb for back-to-back wins.
The nap at similar offers might also be Menai Bridge (⭕ 3.30) in the best event on the opening day of the Winter Derby meeting at Lingfield, where he won a similar race in August, his third strike of the year.
Favourite to start his new season with a win but didn’t get a clear run, third, at Wolverhampton two weeks back.
Emblem Empire won his educational races in class 5 but gave way quickly, raised to class 2 when odds on for his first handicap. Has to give the selection 11lb.
Old Port made no mistake when upped in grade for his hat-trick last time but was well placed to do so, beating nothing well.
