I keep on telling myself not to give up on the golf bets (hard as that may be) as another one went astray last week as Bud Cauley “only” managed eighth place, five shots off winner Hunter Mahan and only one off of a share of fourth place and a bit of money back via the place side of the bet. At 26/1 the win with BETDAQ and 6.8 the place we weren’t too far away and I am willing to carry on with small fun bets as my golf obsessed friend insists any losses are only lent (now where have I heard that before lol?).

Yes, I could have laid it off and made a small profit but no I didn’t (I am only human/greedy after all), but a couple of points won’t kill me or anyone else, based on recent profits. For once in my life I pretty much got the racing right by deciding Doncaster and the new flat season were way beyond my abilities and my congratulations go out to all the punters who managed to snare the 125.0 or so winner of the first race (SP a mere 50/1), or 34.0 about Brae Hill or even the “lowly” 81.0 about West End Lad – your crystal ball supplier is obviously a lot better than mine on days like these? I confess I did have a few bets from the sun and sand of Dubai (and not just the one each way bet that I suggested here), with my biggest win bet on Opinion Poll (worth mentioning at the BETDAQ price of 2.25 for the re run), though I have to put my hand up and confess to other bets on Balada Sale (6th), and Delegator (8th) as well as my each way go at Lucky Nine (3rd and paying 2.85 the place), which may not have made me rich, but at least added to our recent profits nonetheless. Lastly, I give you my two football bets, chest puffed out proudly and BETDAQ account considerably larger accordingly. Two bets were enough for me, Everton to win at odds of 2.0 (won easily 2-0), and better still Newcastle to win at odds of 3.2 with BETDAQ (won 2-0), both bets to a couple of points and both easy to get on thanks to the legions of BETDAQ layers we all have to choose from.

This weekend we have a similar scenario though we have to add the US Masters in to the equation – if we are going to bet on the golf then the big ones have to be included if only because we can watch on the television with little difficulty. I have little confidence in such a high-class field but the 48. 0 about Luke Donald is surely too big and worth a point if nothing else? Add a sensible looking 9.0 the place and we have value even if it doesn’t come with any cast iron guarantees, but that sort of price for the world number one does seem at the very least, surprising?

Horse racing simply doesn’t get any easier for the next few weeks but Godolphin unleash one of their earlier runners with Witnessed, a once race daughter of Authorised who is de out at Kempton in the Conditions Stakes at 3.45. Frankie picks her ahead of Tactfully which should be or could be seen as a clue, and with improvement likely and decent reports of her well being in the racing press, a small win bet may pay for a beer or two.

Lastly, we have or football but as the season goes down to the wire in the last few games, we have to second guess who does or does not still have the necessary fight? As always I try to look for value, and with rumours in the press of a mass summer exodus at Aston Villa, everyone there could be playing to try and keep their jobs. With Liverpool in a rut of late and struggling home and away, a poor start could soon see the crowd on their backs, and the 9.2 about the Villains to win away is too big to be true. For my second bet (I feel greedy and this week we have three!), Blackburn have everything to lose and 4.3 is just too big against an out of sort West Bromwich Albion. Yakubu is still scoring for fun and is always a danger, and relegation is still very much on their radar making the price too large in the circumstances, and one I can’t resist.

For the bet of the week, I am no Chelsea fan by any means but they do look to be on a bit of a roll for their interim manager and that could well continue away to Fulham Monday night. Even Fernando Torres is looking like a striker again and he could even score here (no, seriously), and the 2.25 on offer is the price of the week and one I will be lumping on if other results earlier over the weekend go in my favour?
