COMMUNITY SHIELD: The Striker previews Saturday’s Community Shield between LIVERPOOL v MAN CITY. Find out the recommended BETDAQ bet.
LIVERPOOL V MANCHESTER CITY
5pm Football is back! The annual curtain raiser of the English season takes place this weekend at the King Power Stadium as Liverpool and Manchester City in the Community Shield. It’s a shame we aren’t at Wembley as usual, but obviously the Women’s Euro 2022 Final is there and that will be a wonderful occasion – hopefully England can do it! In my opinion, these are the top two sides in England and they will finish first and second in the Premier League this season – given there was so little between them last season, every little mental edge is worth having. This is basically a glorified friendly, but it carries more meaning given as it involves these too, and we should have a very interesting market on BETDAQ Betting Exchange.
This is going to be a nice preview of what’s to come between these two this season. We had two wonderful clashes last season in the Premier League, and given there’s nothing to lose here we should have a very open game. Manchester City come into the game as favourites, as you would expect given they just edged the title last season, but Liverpool actually have a great recent record against City. They lost 3-2 last season in the FA Cup, but that’s their only loss in the last six meetings in all competitions. We had two thrilling 2-2 draws in the Premier League last season, and you have to go back to 2018 to find a game between these two when both teams didn’t score.
There’s no getting away from the fact that this game screams goals. Surprisingly over 2.5 goals is trading around 1.84 and Both Teams To Score is trading around 1.72. Obviously the market feels this game could be a low tempo affair, and let’s be honest – neither side will be going outside their comfort zone if we’re level with 15 or 10 minutes to go. The mangers main priority will be no injuries, and we should be plenty of changes as the game goes on. I feel the best thing to do here is keep stakes limited – I expect a pretty high quality game, but at the same time let’s not forget this is a friendly.
I think the match odds market is pretty much bang on. We don’t have a clear favourite, it’s quite an open market and City looked priced correctly around 2.4. It’s hard to make the case that they should be shorter considering that Liverpool were the best attacking side in the Premier League last season looking at the stats. However, it’s usually the best defensive side that wins the title and hence why we saw City lift the title! I still expect an open game here though, and we do have the stats in our favour here with Both Teams To Score.
It will be fascinating to see how Klopp uses Darwin Nunez – he’s not really like Mane, and perhaps he won’t show his full hand here given how big the clashes between these two will be in the Premier League this season. Then with City it’s all about Haaland slotting into the team and the Guardiola system – I actually think Haaland will really help Jack Grealish and they could end up being the perfect pair linking up. Let’s wait and see, but there’s so much to look forward to this season!
