PREVIEW
After Poland were dumped out of the tournament on Saturday night the organisers must be hoping that the other co-hosts, Ukraine, can muster some magic and qualify for the quarter-finals otherwise it will be the second Euros in succession in which none of the four hosts made it out of their groups.

In reality the task for Ukraine looks tough as they face a rejuvenated England side who know just a point will see them advance to the last eight. The Ukrainians started the tournament well with an Andrey Shevchenko brace helping them beat Sweden 2-1 but they were found out by a patient France who saw them off 2-0.

An injury niggle could well sideline Shevchenko and without his presence they look rather impotent up-front. England have a good record against the Central Europeans losing just once and conceding one goal in four games. That defeat was when goalkeeper Rob Green was sent off early and the result had little effect on the World Cup qualifying group standings.

England did look cautious in their 1-1 curtain-raiser against the French and at times their defending against the Swedes was awful but Roy Hodgson’s team showed great character to fight back and win 3-2 against the Scandinavians, largely courtesy of a fabulous Theo Walcott cameo. The Arsenal player has been passed fit after tweaking a hamstring in training and with star man Wayne Rooney expected to return, confidence in the England camp could not be higher.

Ukraine have a wretched recent record at the Donbass Arena, having not won in their last six games at the Donetsk stadium, losing four. England have the added incentive of knowing that they have the chance to top the group and avoid an appointment with Spain with a good win. Perhaps because they are playing at home Ukraine are holding up England’s price and at odds-against the Three Lions look a cracking bet to collect all three points.
