DAQMAN LANDS 90th WINNING NAP: Daqman did his job, picking ante-post Cesarewitch bets at 33-1 and 26.0 on a mare gambled down to 6-1 favourite, but Lot Of Joy failed to do hers: not much joy, finishing 11th. Daqman made the best of the rest of the day with returns of 1121, three winners including his 90th winning nap of the year:

SHADOW OF ‘THINKER’ RODIN
OUR own Frankel. He never gets tired. The best two-year-old ever at Ballydoyle. Those claims by connections after City Of Troy (pictured below) galloped clear in the Dewhurst yesterday were nothing compared with his jockey’s report, walking him in.
‘He hadn’t been out since July and was a bit ring rusty!’ (quote unquote Ryan Moore). If he can make all in a Dewhurst, stepping up the gallop coming out of the dip, when he’s ring rusty, then Guineas, Derby.. even the Triple Crown boast may be justified.
Justify is the name of his sire and my ratings now contain a breeder’s boast as big as ever Galileo achieved for Coolmore: in one year Justify has the top juvenile colt AND the top filly, Opera Singer, who ran away with the Marcel Boussac test at Longchamp at the Arc meeting.
The Guineas double could well be odds-on the pair if the Spring trials fail to turn up anything remotely comparable.
In fact, Galileo is sire of City Of Troy’s dam, and Opera Singer’s dam is a daughter of Galileo’s sire, Sadler’s Wells. So it is that Coolmore have doubled down on their most successful breeding lines, new into the old.
It looks as likely as being killed by a falling tree in a Connemara bog that both will fail to live up to expectactions next May.
But punters will hold off backing them through the winter at their current evens and 5-1 because only last year the same outfit had ‘our best chance yet of the Triple Crown’ with Auguste Rodin.
Rodin must be a thinker. Two Derby wins this season is enough to make any good two-year-old join the annals of the great at three but he started the season 12th of 14 at 13-8 favourite for the Newmarket Guineas.
And, after his Derbys, he was 10th of 10 in the King George at 9-4 favourite; so will you take the current 11-4 about him for the Breeders Cup? It’s a close-at-hand chance when you are half a year away from a Guineas.
EMMET METHOD AT THE DOUBLE
⭕ 5.10 Naas (November Handicap) Hard to get help from the draw: the low numbers tend to bunch across to the rail and they used to have it sorted.
But – take last year – 8, 10 and 11 came from the rear and poached three of the first four places.
Today’s likely favourite, Filey Bay (BETDAQ 5.4 taken), was a maiden on the Flat, until scoring at odds-on over 2m at Tramore in August, following fine efforts in the big hurdles at Newbury, Cheltenham and Galway.
That he ran over 7f at Tipperary early last month is just part of the Emmet Mullins ‘method’ of running them ‘where they tell me to’ which produced a chaser-cum-hurdler aged 10 to win the Newmarket Cesarewitch yesterday, after finishing fourth in this Naas November Handicap last year.
I see a form expert worrying about the ground for Filey Bay but he finished third when yesterday’s Cesarewitch runner-up, Pied Piper, was second in the County Hurdle (soft) at Cheltenham.
I see the same form ‘expert’ complaining that Filey Bay’s mark of 87 is on the high side but, on his 142 hurdles rating, he’s at least 10lb well in.
IRESINE TO TAKE THE CONSEIL
⭕ 2.50 Longchamp (Prix Du Conseil de Paris, Group 2, 1m 2f) Ralph Beckett’s Max Vega, gets his ground today. Winner of the St Simon Stakes at Newbury at this time last year.
Another six-year-old, Iresine, was winning the Royal-Oak (1m 7f) around the same time but showed his versatility by taking the Ganay at Longchamp (1m 2f) in the Spring.
Only just run out of in the Prix Foy Arc trial after a long holiday. Has won second run after a break three times in his career.
Jack Darcy, for Paul and Oliver Cole, was winner of the Grand Prix de Deauville in August (soft), not having a lot to beat.
⭕ 4.45 Goodwood (1m handicap) Darkness, a close-up fourth in the Golden Mile (soft) here in August, makes a solo trip down from Yorkshire to take on Kathab, who has never raced with cut in the ground. Betdaq Betting Exchange value: 7.6
