Mumbai Indians v Sunrisers Hyderabad

MATCH OVERVIEW:

We’re back at the Wankhede on Wednesday as Mumbai Indians host Sunrisers Hyderabad in the next IPL game on Betdaq Betting Exchange ! This is a big game for both sides for very different reasons. Mumbai Indians are in desperate trouble; five defeats from seven games leaves them towards the bottom of the table. They simply have to win games now if they are to harbour any realistic playoff ambitions, and frankly even a win here might not be enough to save their season. It has been a miserable campaign for the five-time champions – the lowest point coming just six days ago when Chennai Super Kings humiliated them by 103 runs at the Wankhede. Sunrisers Hyderabad have playoff hopes, and this will surely view this as a must win game against “weak” opposite.

I say “weak” because Mumbai Indians still come into the game as the favourites! Obviously one of the biggest and most supported franchises; you can easily make the case that they are over bet while often given their level of form. The good news for Mumbai fans is that Rohit Sharma looks set to return after missing three games with the hamstring injury. The openers have clearly struggled without him, but another concern has been the form of : Jasprit Bumrah – he hasn’t been taking many wickets and given he is one of best bowlers in the world that is surprising. Sunrisers Hyderabad have all the momentum here though – they arrive at the Wankhede having won four games in a row.

Their batting is absolutely firing, and they’re going to get excellent batting conditions here too. Ishan Kishan smashed 74 off just 31 balls and Abhishek Sharma added 57 off 29, the pair putting on 132 off 55 balls to chase down 229 against Rajasthan Royals with nine balls to spare. Can the Mumbai bowlers live with a batting line-up firing on all cylinders?

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

You know exactly what to expect at the Wankhede these days; one of the most batsman friendly grounds in world cricket. The boundaries are short, the outfield is lightning fast, and the pitch offers true, consistent bounce. This has been a run-fest venue all season. The first innings scores this season have been 220/4 (chased), 240/4 (won), 195/6 (chased) and 207/6 (won). The 195 was chased down in just 16/3 overs. Mumbai collapsed chasing the 207 last week. A par score here is well over 200 at this point. The significant dew factor in Mumbai in the evenings makes life increasingly difficult for bowlers too.

RECOMMENDED BET:

It is very hard to make a case for Mumbai Indians here. While from a betting point of view, it’s very surprising this see them as favourites – that is more IPL fandom for you than actual form. The Sunrisers batting line-up is in superb form right now, and I’m very happy to back them as outsiders at 2.06. Obviously Rohit Sharma could be back for Mumbai and they do have a world class bowler in Jasprit Bumrah but they just haven’t been winning enough games to justify being favourites here. Especially with Sunrisers in such good form too – I’m happy with a confident bet at 2.06.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

The Wankhede is the last place you want to be stuck on the bowlers, and given how Mumbai’s attack has been performing, that applies even more strongly here. The Sunrisers batting has been extraordinary in recent weeks and they will not fear a 200+ target on this ground. If Sunrisers bat first, I’d expect a very big total – obviously I would be less confidence on a big total if Mumbai bat first especially given how they collapsed against CSK. However, in general, it’s hard not to see another very high scoring game here. It’s just a ground where you want to be on the batters!
