Gujarat Titans v Chennai Super Kings

MATCH OVERVIEW:

It’s crunch time at the IPL on Betdaq Betting Exchange as we are very much at the business end of the group stage now. We’re into the final matchday’s as Gujarat Titans host Chennai Super Kings at Ahmedabad on Thursday. CSK suffered a huge blow on Monday as Sunrisers Hyderabad chased down their 180 at the Chepauk to effectively knock them out. That left them on 12 points meaning the most they could finish with was 14; Rajasthan Royals winning on Tuesday knocked them out – cruising home chasing 220/5 against Lucknow!

For Gujarat Titans, however, things are different. They are already through to the playoffs, but the race for those all-important top two spots is still on. Obviously the top two is a huge advantage in the IPL playoffs – two chances at the Final. From a rocky start losing their first two games, Gujarat have been one of the strongest sides in the tournament. They won five in a row before suffering a setback at Eden Gardens on Saturday when KKR posted a massive 247/2 in excellent batting conditions. That still leaves them in the top two though, two points behind RCB and level on points with Sunrisers Hyderabad – all sides have one game left. You don’t need me to tell you this is a must win game for Gujarat.

CSK have done reasonably well in this IPL – alarm bells were ringing loudly at the start after losing their opening three games and obviously last seasons performance too. They have knuckled down well – it’s just unfortunate they have fluffed their lines at the end by losing their last two games. Gujarat seem to be peaking towards the end of the tournament, just at the right time – but all the pressure here is on them.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

Ahmedabad is the biggest cricket stadium in the world and it’s usually a batters paradise in T20 cricket. That actually hasn’t worked out this season though – scores have been on the lower side recently. The first inning scores at this ground in IPL 2026 have been 210/6 (won), 180 all out (chased), 199/5 (won), 155 all out (chased), 163/9 (chased) and 168/5 (won). Sunrisers Hyderabad collapsed for 86 chasing 168 last time out – obviously collapses happen from anywhere these days, but we haven’t seen the volume of 200+ scores we usually see here. We could get a heavy dew, which would aid the batters as the ball becomes difficult for bowlers to grip, but I wouldn’t go into this game just expecting a big score as we have done in the past.

RECOMMENDED BET:

No surprise that Gujarat Titans come into the game as the favourites here; home advantage and they have played the better cricket this season. I know they had a little setback with the KKR loss, but as I said above, they seem to be peaking towards the end of the tournament – they had put five wins together before that loss. CSK are eliminated after Rajasthan winning on Tuesday, and they may well be tempted to ring the changes and let some of their young players have a run-out. This is a rare IPL game where you could watch the team news for some big market movement with that in mind. I’m happy to be on Gujarat at 1.77 as they’ve been playing to a very high standard this season.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

The in-running story here will largely be dictated by what level of dew we get here. As I said above, scoring conditions haven’t been exceptionally easy this season as we’ve seen in the past. Obviously if we do get a heavy dew, then we’re looking at 200+ and that being chased too. However, this hasn’t just been a ground where you blindly support the batters this season. The CSK middle order might be worth taking on in these conditions, and that’s where we could see most market movement.
