Manchester City’s defeat at Goodison has thrown the title race wide open and the run in could be one of the most fascinating for years. With Manchester United easing past Stoke, the lead is now down to just goal difference and Sir Alex Ferguson has a massive game to prepare for at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Before United meet Chelsea, Aston Villa travel to St James’ Park looking for a repeat performance of the second half against QPR during the week. If Villa defend like they did in the first 45 against QPR, then there’s trouble on the cards.

Yohan Cabaye will be sorely missed by the Magpies and I felt the midfielder was a little unlucky to be hit with the three-game ban. Newcastle haven’t looked like their usual selves at the back and Villa can have some joy with Darren Bent and Robbie Keane leading the line. A clean sheet for the hosts looks unlikely and a point is attainable for Villa.

Manchester United got the result they needed after the disappointment of losing to Liverpool in the FA Cup. Sir Alex understands the big importance of getting three points on Sunday to maintain the pressure on their noisy neighbours.

Andre Villas-Boas was just seconds away from another defeat until Jose Bosingwa’s late equaliser at Swansea. The draw further underlines the problems in West London and it was another game that Fernando Torres failed to score. These are the kind of games that if you score in, all is forgiven and how the Spaniard would kill for a goal here.

United will need to be careful, but they’ve shown enough in recent weeks to get another vital away win – much like the 2-1 result at the Emirates a couple of weeks back. Ashley Cole is a huge loss and expect Antonio Valencia to be tearing down that right wing all day long.

Monday night games have an added spice to them and Tottenham’s trip to Anfield has the makings of a classic. Spurs beat Wigan midweek, but were guilty of giving the visitors too many chances and that’s something they cannot afford to do against the Reds – who have Luis Suarez available again. Gareth Bale just looks like scoring whenever he takes to the pitch and Kenny Dalglish will be working all week trying to find a way to nullify the Welshman.

Liverpool are full of confidence, but I’m not sure they will be able to keep Spurs out for 90 minutes. With that in mind, the draw looks a runner and I like 2-2 in the correct score market.
