The big games just keep coming and this weekend’s Premier League action kicks off with Manchester United v Liverpool part three. Of course there’s going to be a lot of focus on Luis Suarez’s presence at Old Trafford and I just hope the players can put the recent issues behind them as it should be a fascinating contest.

Revenge will be on the minds of the United players after Dirk Kuyt’s late winner dumped them out of the FA Cup at the back end of January. Sir Alex Ferguson’s side showed amazing resilience to comeback from three down at Stamford Bridge and it was hugely important they narrowed the gap at the top coming into this weekend.

Wayne Rooney was inspired in that game and his return has been a massive bonus for United. His two goals at the weekend took his tally to 15 in the Premier League and United have been clinical on their own turf in recent weeks. United’s last six league games at Old Trafford has seen them rack up 17 goals and five victories in the process.

Liverpool did well against Spurs on Monday night, but didn’t create much given all the ball they had. Pepe Reina proved the Reds’ saviour at the death as he stood firm to keep Gareth Bale out, but overall Kenny Dalgish can be pleased with the effort.

If this game was at Anfield I’d be leaning towards another Reds win, but United have looked too strong at home of late. Rio Ferdinand’s presence at the back has seen an improvement and Jonny Evans looks far more comfortable with the England man next to him.

United have an excellent opportunity to take top spot with three points and that would really put the pressure on Roberto Mancini’s side, who play Sunday.

I felt Aston Villa were unfortunate to come away from St James’ Park empty handed, but there was enough in the performance to suggest they can give Man City a run for their money.

Man City cruised past Fulham last weekend, but they haven’t looked as solid as they did before the Christmas break – especially on the road. Everton exposed some weaknesses in the 1-0 win at Goodison Park and that’s the way Villa must play. David Moyes sent out a side to hassle and get amongst City and it worked, with the visitors lacking their usual fluidity around midfield.

Darron Gibson got the winner that night and Villa have much more attacking options available. Villa have drawn too many home games this season, but one here against City would be a cracking result.
