The Manchester clubs dominated last week’s Super Sunday as United and City flexed their muscles to extend their lead over the chasing pack. In all honesty neither game really lived up to the billing as an early goal at Old Trafford and a red card at the Emirates set the tone in both games.
Daniel Sturridge’s introduction made United sweat a touch and I expect that to be the case even more so when they face Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Sunday. Spurs shocked the country when they ended a 23-year wait for a win at Old Trafford and they have a real chance for a league double.
Spurs could do City a huge favour by beating United and they have the weapons to do so. At Old Trafford they really went for the jugular and the hosts couldn’t handle the pace from the flanks. Spurs’ full-backs love bombing forward and that’s before you throw Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon into the mix.
Mousa Dembele is a player that has caught my eye this season and I’m surprised Sir Alex Ferguson didn’t have a look at him. At the back Jan Vertonghen and Michael Dawson are tasked with stopping Robin van Persie. I was shocked to hear someone in the Sky Sports studio say how low United would be without the Dutchman’s contribution this season and if you can keep him quiet, then they are beatable.
At around 3.0 on BETDAQ I reckon Spurs are a great shout.
Before that game we’re at Stamford Bridge where Chelsea take on Arsenal.
Both managers are under all sorts of pressure to add an interesting twist to the clash. Rafa Benitez watched in horror as his side contrived to blow a 2-0 lead at the Bridge to Southampton, but we’ve had the odd shocker in the Spaniard’s short reign in London. Demba Ba has made a seamless move to Chelsea and his opener against the Saints was already his third strike to put another nail in Fernando Torres’ coffin.
Arsenal have hardly covered themselves in glory of late and they only just edged out Swansea in the FA Cup on Wednesday evening. It was an important win for the Gunners as they kept their hopes of a domestic trophy intact.
Arsene Wenger is in a precarious position with the Gunners in the midst of their worst ever points haul during his time at the club. He will also be without star midfielder Mikel Arteta due to injury and that could cost them dear.
David Luiz looked all over the shop midweek as he slotted in at centre-back and I fully expect him to either be back in midfield on Sunday or on the bench. Arsenal have been short of the mark against the bigger sides this season and I don’t fancy them being able to contain Chelsea’s attacking options. At around 1.99 on BETDAQ I’m happy to take the home side. I’ll also be having a small wager on a Spurs and Chelsea double.
