It’s the return of the Premier League this weekend as the excitement of the FA Cup is put on ice until the end of the month. There are plenty of interesting games and the one over at Ewood Park on Saturday when Fulham visit certainly fits the bill.
Rovers fans are once again protesting against the ownership at the club, but I like their chances of beating Fulham to help brighten the mood around Lancashire.
Fulham are nothing more than neat and tidy, but they really struggle on their travels. I thought Rovers put in a good shift at Newcastle last weekend and they may just want it more than the Cottagers. Kean’s side have enough momentum going into this one in order to pick up a vital win in the relegation stakes.
Newcastle will head into their fixture with QPR full of confidence as they battled back from a goal down to book their place in the FA Cup fourth round. Alan Pardew’s side suffered a dip over the festive period, but they showed with the performance against Man Utd that they are still a force to be reckoned with.
Demba Ba was instrumental in the 3-0 destruction of United and he’ll be sorely missed as he heads off to the African Cup of Nations. Shola Ameobi and Leon Best both now have an excellent opportunity to show the manager what they’re all about when QPR are in town.
Of course there will be the new manager element for the visitors as Mark Hughes took over this week, but I don’t think it’ll be enough for them.
Even without Ba, Newcastle are strong enough to build on that fine performance against the champions and make it another afternoon to remember at St James’ Park.
Roberto Mancini takes his side off to the DW Stadium on Monday night and I fully expect them to pick up the three points. There’s no doubt that City will miss the Toure brothers and I honestly feel Yaya is as important to City as Wayne Rooney is for United. Vincent Kompany is also unavailable following his suspension, but the league leaders have the squad to cope.
I noticed that Wigan have had plenty of trouble scoring against City over the past couple of seasons, and that was before the latest bunch of signings over the summer. This should be a walk in the park for City, so I’m happy to give Wigan a couple of goals start and still get on the away win on BETDAQ.
