Super Sunday certainly lives up to the billing as we have a repeat of one of the most exciting Premier League weekends for a long time. Manchester City first host Tottenham and then Manchester United travel to the Emirates and the reverse fixtures at the end of August produced a staggering 16 goals across the two games.
Harry Redknapp will have been frustrated to drop points against Wolves at home, but he’ll certainly fancy his side’s chances of getting something from City. Jolean Lescott’s comments during the week will have pretty much sorted Redknapp’s pre-match talk and Spurs would like nothing more than to become the first side to take a point from the league leaders on their own patch.
I saw City in action at Wigan on Monday and they didn’t look too convincing. It’s clear that City are nowhere near the same level without the dominance of Yaya Toure in the middle and this is an area that Spurs can have plenty of success in. Roberto Mancini still has plenty of flair players at his disposal, but they have not looked like a team over the past couple of games.
Spurs always look like they can score and that’ll be no different here – even up against the hugely impressive Joe Hart. I fancy Spurs to take the lead on Sunday, but then for City to fight their way back into the game with the pressure mounting.
Manchester United then take on Arsenal and they’ll be looking forward to getting at the host’s fragile looking back four. The Gunners were all over the place at Swansea and paid the price for some sloppy defending.
Antonio Valencia looks unstoppable at the moment and the full back position was a real problem for the Gunners last Sunday. On the other side Sir Alex will likely start with Nani and the two wingers could have a field day if things don’t improve dramatically at the back for Arsenal.
I still feel United are one influential midfielder light, although Michael Carrick is looking in a confident mood with a couple of goals over the past few weeks.
Arsenal’s hopes rely on Robin Van Persie, so if Rio Ferdinand and Chris Smalling can do a job on the Dutchman – I don’t see too much trouble for the visitors. I’d certainly lay Arsenal at 2.98, but I’m also keen to have a bit on the away win.
