‘Exeter,’ I told the club’s medical staff, as they asked me where I thought I was just after my blow to the head last Friday night.

That we were at the Sixways Stadium, almost 150 miles further up the country, meant there was little choice but to take me off after 40 minutes of our disappointing defeat against Worcester Warriors.

And thanks to the concussion I also missed out on a rare trip to the Emirates the following day, while I can’t tell you too much about the start of the Ryder Cup.

By Sunday I was feeling a lot better and I’ll never forget the climax of the golf as Europe clawed their way out of a seemingly inescapable deficit to beat the Americans and retain the trophy by winning the competition outright.

Last time I talked about how amazing a summer of sport it has been and I really cannot see 2012 being beaten for many years to come.

The Ryder Cup victory was also fantastic news for the Bet Dec bank balance with my punt from the Bath game coming in.

It could be another exciting end to the weekend this Sunday as Barcelona welcome Real Madrid for one of the finest spectacles in world football, El Clasico, which is the subject of my latest wager.

Featuring arguably the planet’s best two sides and, for me, the best two players, in Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, it is a contest which rarely disappoints.

The teams met in the Spanish Super Cup at the start of the season and, although both outfits won their home legs, it was Madrid who prevailed on away goals.

Barca might have lost at the Bernabeu but they’ve completed a clean sweep in their six La Liga fixtures, whereas Jose Mourinho’s men have lost twice, both on the road, and have so far taken eight points less than their great rivals.

At fortress Nou Camp I strongly fancy Barca and they look a fantastic price, at 1.80 on Betdaq.
