BHA Plan For Resumption On June 1st: On Monday afternoon the UK government shared their documents on the easing of restrictions and it outlined that no sport will be allowed take place until June 1st at the earliest.
It was then up to the Sporting Boards to commit to a plan, and the BHA has announced that they are working towards returning on June the 1st, the earliest date available.
Racing’s Executive Committee, which includes the British Horseracing Authority, the Racecourse Association, The Racehorse Owners’ Association and the National Trainers Federation agreed that a timeline setting out what racing would need to do to meet that date will be published within the next seven days.
The Resumption of Racing Group will have to set out a provisional fixture list and this will be announced soon. The BHA had already drawn up plans on returning behind closed doors, but the UK Government will need to give the go-ahead to these plans. We were going to see a blockbuster card of Group races at the end of May on the BHA plans, and now we might see those races the first weekend in June.
The June 1st date for resumption is dependent upon assessment by public health officials and the fulfilment of the governments five tests for easing the lockdown measures. For the time being, all we can do is keep our fingers crossed racing gets the go-ahead for June 1st. The potential fixture list could be incredible as we see all the early season Group races together!
