CARABAO CUP WEDNESDAY: We look ahead to Wednesday’s Carabao Cup Quarter Finals between ARSENAL v TOTTENHAM and CHELSEA v BOURNEMOUTH with extended stats and recommended BETDAQ bets.

ARSENAL V TOTTENHAM

7.45pm What an excellent fixture to have as a League Cup Quarter Final and this is massive for both sides. One might think that some players will be rested here before the busy Christmas period; however which club can turn down a chance to win a trophy given their situation? Pochettino has yet to win a trophy for all his hard work at Spurs and surely Emery would love to win one in his first season – so we expect strong teams here.

We have a very open market with the match odds at the time of writing currently trading; Arsenal 2.7, Tottenham 2.76 and the draw is 3.7. We had this fixture very recently in the Premier League when Arsenal came from behind to win 4-2 with a wonderful second half performance; we had quite similar odds too and we went with a Spurs lay. It’s hard to get away from the Spurs lay again here; Arsenal may have lost their unbeaten run at the weekend but they have been excellent this season and it’s a big ask for Spurs to win away from home. We feel that they should be bigger than 2.76 and from a value point of view we’re happy to lay them.

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Lay Tottenham at 2.76.

MATCH STATS

  • This match will see Arsenal vs Tottenham become the joint-most played fixture in League Cup history (14 times, level with Arsenal v Liverpool).
  • Arsenal have won seven of their previous 13 League Cup meetings with Tottenham (D3 L3), including the most recent two (2010-11 and 2015-16).
  • Following Arsenal’s win against Spurs in the league meeting between them at the start of December, they’re looking to beat their rivals twice in the same calendar month for the first time since March 1987.
  • Arsenal are looking to reach the League Cup semi-finals in consecutive seasons for the first time since a run of three between 2005-06 and 2007-08.
  • Tottenham are looking to reach the League Cup semi-finals for the first time since 2014-15, when they eventually lost the final to Chelsea.
  • Arsenal have won their last six League Cup home games, though just two of these have been against fellow Premier League opposition.
  • Among players at clubs still in the competition, no-one has more assists in the League Cup this season than Arsenal’s Matteo Guendouzi (2).
  • Tottenham striker Harry Kane hasn’t played in a League Cup match since September 2015, when Spurs lost 1-2 at home to Arsenal thanks to a Mathieu Flamini brace.

CHELSEA V BOURNEMOUTH

7.45pm Bournemouth wouldn’t have been happy to get Chelsea away from home in the Quarter Final draw – indeed Chelsea knocked them out at this exact same stage last season. Bournemouth have never reached the Semi Final stage of the League Cup, so obviously this is a huge night for them – and it is for Chelsea too with a chance to win a trophy in Sarri’s first season as manager. We don’t expect many players to be rested here, although it might be tempting for Chelsea as they battle for a Champions League spot next season and they need good results over the Christmas period having lost a few games recently.

The markets expect a home win with Chelsea heavy odds on favourites. The match odds at the time of writing currently trade; Chelsea 1.33, Bournemouth 11.5 and the draw is 6.0. Bournemouth arrive here having lost five of their last six games; their only recent highlight being a 2-1 win at home to Huddersfield. We have seen plenty of goals in their recent games, with over 2.5 goals winning in five of their last six also. Chelsea haven’t been short of goals this season too and with over 2.5 goals trading 1.65; that looks where the value is compared to the match odds market. We can’t see Bournemouth going down without a fight and they have managed to score against Manchester City and Arsenal in their recent games; so we can see lots of action here.

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Over 2.5 goals at 1.65.
