The 115th edition of the US Open brings with it more uncertainty than is custom with the stunning Pacific Northwest location of Chamber’s Bay, a bit of a golfing enigma since it’s opening in only 2007.

Luckily here at BETDAQ Tips we’ve done plenty of homework to help you secure a profit this week, particularly with Comm Back up to £25 if Rory McIlroy wins his 5th major!

Chamber’s Bay is nothing short of a modern day monster with the 3 longest par 4’s in US Open history. See below:

US Open Chambers Bay

So what will you need in your armory to lift the US Open trophy late on Sunday night?

Bomber

There is no place to hide for guys who can’t send the ball out there, especially as accuracy off the tee is not going to be a crucial factor this week. Enormously wide fairways (a couple over 100 yards wide) are made for the gun slingers who can carry 300 yards and will hit 7/8 irons into greens instead of 3 irons and hybrids.

High Ball Flight

This can be a double edged sword this week if the wind picks up. The scale of the undulations on the Chamber’s Bay greens however, make the ability to land the ball soft and manoeuvre the ball into favourable green side positions will be critical in avoiding bogeys. The Scottish-like fescue grass will toss golf balls into various devilish spots if you can’t hit parachute shots in.

Magical Short Game

Even with immaculate approach play, you won’t get around 72 holes at Chamber’s Bay without having your short game severely tested. Flop shots, bump and runs and old school Texas wedge’s will all be requirements to minimise bogeys and if your short game is remotely suspect, chances are this course will sting hard and sting often.

Mental Fortitude

If the wind blows this week it will take something special to be under par and a bogey free round is likely to be a mythical creature. Like most US Open’s this years winner is going to need to have the patience of a saint and the pragmatism of a monk to accept when a hole goes wrong. The ability to leave bogeys or worse on the last green without carrying their negative impression onto the next tee is the final prerequisite for a successful US Open challenge.

Box tickers?

It’s no surprise to see that the immediate draw to these characteristics is Rory McIlroy (9.4), although two others proven across these 4 traits are most certainly Phil Mickelson (20.0) and Henrik Stenson (31.0).
