CHAMPIONS LEAGUE WEDNESDAY: We preview tonight’s Champions League Qualifier first leg between CELTIC v LOKOMOTIV ASTANA with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
CELTIC V LOKOMOTIV ASTANA
7.45pm It’s a massive night for Celtic tonight in Champions League qualifying as they host the first leg against FC Astana. These two sides actually met in Champions League qualifying last season too, with Celtic needing a winner in the 90th minute to go through. The markets are expecting a Celtic win tonight, and maybe if last year is anything to go by it will be closer than the odds suggest.
The match odds at the time of writing currently stand at; Celtic 1.44, FC Astana 10.0 and the draw is 4.7. When they met last season, the first leg was 1-1 and then Celtic won the second leg 2-1 at home. You’d have to say though that Celtic have improved immensely since then under Brendan Rogers, and Astana are going through something of a crisis at the moment, with players asking to leave – so Celtic should see this as a great chance to put the tie to bed. Can they do it though?
Although we expect Celtic to win, we still feel that 1.44 is simply too short to back. We feel that given the situation with the Astana squad at the moment, they will come here to defend and while it’s never good to be behind, they’ll possibly be happy to get back to Kazakhstan with a one goal defeat, given it’s such a tricky trip. With that in mind, we like the look of under 2.5 goals at 1.9. We could easily see a cagey start given how close the sides were last season, and while Celtic have improved, we still expect Astana to defend reasonably well. With no value in the win market, under 2.5 goals looks the call.
