CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: We preview tonight’s three quarter finals between BAYERN MUNICH v REAL MADRID, ATLETICO MADRID V LEICESTER and last night’s rearranged DORTMUND v MONACO with recommended BETDAQ bets.
DORTMUND V MONACO
5.45pm After a horrible situation last night involving the Dortmund team bus, this fixture has now been moved to this evening. It’s obviously hard to know how the players will be affected by last nights situation, but we doubt the Dortmund management would let the game go ahead so soon if they were really worried. Dortmund were thrashed the weekend against Bayern Munich, however we can probably forgive them that result with respect to this tie. While Monaco edged out Angers 1-0 to go a step further to winning the league in France – they’ve won their three games since beating Manchester City to reach this stage.
Dortmund are heavy favourites for this leg in the markets, with the match odds currently trading Dortmund 1.58, Monaco 5.8 and the draw 5.0 at the time of writing. Obviously both these sides are very attacking, and with many expecting lots of goals – the odds reflect that. Under 2.5 goals is just 1.44 – which seems very short for a first leg at this stage of the competition, teams take the “don’t lose” approach rather than go after the games.
Monaco are always attacking but they would be wise to not go toe-to-toe with Dortmund here. Dortmund have a superb record at home in the Bundesliga where they are yet to be beaten, winning 10 of the 13 games too. It seems shrewd from a Monaco point of view to keep this game quiet, and head back to Monaco to try and win the tie there. We feel though that they simply won’t be able to stop Dortmund at home, and with Monaco not great at the back, the 1.58 on Dortmund looks worth a bet.
BETDAQ BEST BET:
Dortmund to beat Monaco at 1.58.

BAYERN MUNICH V REAL MADRID
7.45pm When the Quarter Final draw was made, this was the tie everyone was looking forward to, and hopefully it lives up to it’s billing! At the time of writing, Bayern Munich are currently odds on favourites at 1.85, with Real Madrid 4.6 and the draw trading 4.0.
Both sides have impressive form coming into this one, although Bayern did suffer a shock defeat to Hoffenheim at the start of the month, however they bounced back by thrashing Dortmund 4-1 and it looks like the Bundesliga is as good as over – so they can really focus on putting all their energy into the Champions League now. Madrid could only manage a point at home to Atletico at the weekend but they arrive here unbeaten in their last nine, and will be hopeful to extend that record and win this tie back in Madrid.
Bayern have been utterly dominant at home this season, and have scored at least four goals in three of their last four games here. The 1.85 on them is tempting, however we believe that the 1.7 on over 2.5 goals offers more value. Looking at Real Madrid’s away games, they have conceded at least once away from home in all of their games since the middle of December – that’s quite a run, especially considering the weaker sides they would have met in La Liga. They have such attacking firepower though that it’s hard not to see them troubling Bayern at the back too. All told, the 1.7 on overs looks too big.
BETDAQ BEST BET:
Over 2.5 goals at 1.7.

ATLETICO MADRID V LEICESTER
7.45pm Leicester have proved to be the surprise package in this years Champions League knockouts, however their run may come to an end here. For Leicester to get through this tie, you’d have to think that they can be only one goal down after tonight’s fixture – however we don’t expect this Atletico side to crumble like Sevilla, they’re simply too solid at the back. Atletico are short favourites for tonight as they’re currently trading 1.32, while Leicester are 13.0 with the draw 5.8.
Up until last weekend when they lost 4-2 to Everton, Leicester had been unbeaten since the club sacked Ranieri. Even allowing for their improved form since Craig Shakespeare came in, you have to look at their away record this season and want to be against them here. They were better in the Champions League than the Premier League all season, however are still without a win in their last three away Champions League games, and only have one win away from home in the Premier League all season.
So it’s very difficult to see them getting a result here against a top side like Atletico. Atletico on the handicap is very tempting – they are 1.9 -1.5 goals. However, given that Leicester are so good on the break and also that they have been banging in the goals lately, we feel that over 2.5 goals looks the value at 1.88. We can definitely see Leicester scoring, but feel Atletico can run out easy winners in the end.
BETDAQ BEST BET:
Over 2.5 goals at 1.88.
