CRICKET WORLD CUP: Destination Taunton on Monday for Bangladesh v West Indies – both sides aware of the importance of the match in terms of semi-final aspirations. What’s the best bet on BETDAQ?
Both teams are fully aware of the importance of this game in terms of their Semi-Final prospects. A loss here for either team will leave them with a mountain to climb. Both teams are on three points with West Indies (6th) just ahead of Bangladesh (7th) in the table on NRR. The County Ground, Taunton is the venue in what should be an evenly matched contest. West Indies are the favourites on the Betdaq Exchange priced at 1.74. Bangladesh are priced at 2.74.
After opening with a comprehensive victory vs Pakistan, it has been a case of crashing back to earth for West Indies with defeats vs Australia and England. They will still feel they performed strongly vs Australia but will not be one bit happy with their performance vs England, going down by eight wickets. They batted first and never got into a rhythm. Nicholas Pooran was the only player to pass 50 runs finishing on 63 runs. The early dismisses of Chris Gayle did not help them either. They were all bowled out for 212 from 44.4 overs. They needed early wickets in England innings and they never came. England had 95 runs before Shannon Gabriel the first of his two wickets (West Indies only wickets). England reached their target of 213 with ease and with 16 overs to spare.
Bangladesh game vs Sri Lanka was abandoned last Tuesday so they are still waiting to redeem themselves after that heavy defeat to England over a week ago. Shakib Al Hasan is already contender for Player of The Tournament. He is the second highest runs scorers on 260 behind England’s Joe Root. It does seem Bangladesh are over dependent on him for runs. If he is to have an off day/early dismissal it is hard to see where the runs will come for Bangladesh.
The most recent encounter between these sides was an ODI Series nearly twelve months ago which Bangladesh won 2-1 and in general this is a hard game to call. Shai Hope and Chris Gayle both the potential to rack up big scores. Oshane Thomas, Shannon Gabriel and Sheldon Cottrell are always a dangerous bowling attack. For these reasons and Bangladesh struggling to get runs apart from Al Hasan, I’m going with West Indies.
Verdict: West Indies
