ANOTHER DAQMAN PROFIT: NAP AND DOUBLE UP: Daqman made a profit yesterday for the third day running, with a nap and double up from four races. His three-day profits came from:
WON 11-4 COMPLETION (Thursday)
WON 11-8 SENIORITY (Thursday, nap)
WON 4-1 MUTARAKEZ (Wednesday)
WON 11-4 SALT WHISTLE BAY (Tuesday)
GAMBLE LANDS TOP OF FILLIES’ CLASSIC GUIDE: After previewing the 2,000 Guineas yesterday, Daqman turns his stats-and-facts spotlight on to Sunday’s first fillies’ Classic, the 1,000 Guineas. He finds the gamble of the race comes out on top.
THE 1,000 GUINEAS: EASY AS ABC?
A Eight winners out of 12 had won a Group race
B Eight out of 12 scored last time out
C Seven out of 12 had won at Newmarket
D Winners as 2yo of Moyglare, Cheveley Park Stakes, Fillies Mile and Oh So Sharp Stakes
Placed same year in Nell Gwyn Stakes, Won or placed Leopardstown 1,000 Guineas Trial; Listed win same year; third and unplaced Prix Imprudence
E Eight out of 12 rated 106 or higher
X DRAW: Seven out of 10 came out of stalls 2 to 8 (not yet available)
ABCDE Anna Nerium
Subject of sustained gamble from 66-1 down to 12-1 in a place with bookmakers, but 17.5 in the BETDAQ ante-post orange this morning.
Yet she was unfancied when winning last year at Salisbury (40-1) and this year at Newmarket (Free Handicap winner at 25-1), trainer Richard Hannon admitting: ‘She hasn’t grown much and I didn’t expect her to win like that!’ Had ‘loads in hand’’ that day, according to the form book.
ABCDE Laurens
May Hill Stakes and Fillies Mile double last backend, bursting the bubbles of Aidan O’Brien’s Magical, September and Sizzling. Expected to do better over further so needs some cut in the ground on Sunday.
ABCDE Soliloquy
Supplemented after winning the Nell Gwyn last month, seemingly surprising Charlie Appleby, whose string has been in fantastic form. Dam’s side related to Australian.
ABE Wild Illusion
No doubt that this one, Marcel Boussac winner on Arc day, has been the apple of Appleby’s eye. But Magical was much closer to her than she was to Laurens, and Wild Illusion has not been seen out this season. Has won on good to firm and soft.
AB Dan’s Dream
Another stable absolutely flying has been Mick Channon’s and Dan’s Dream is supplemented after winning the Fred Darling. Related to an Irish Guineas runner-up.
AB Liquid Amber
Group 3 winner at the Curragh last autumn when put in the race on the off chance. Related on the dam’s side to a 1,000 Guineas third.
ACD Altyn Orda
Oh So Sharp Stakes win and Nell Gwyn second puts her in the top bracket. Her dam is by Giant’s Causeway and a half-sister to Classic winner, Sleepytime.
ADE Happily
This is the one that Ballydoyle exposed last year for four wins out of seven races, including the Moyglare (short-headed Magical).
Rare filly winner of the Lagardere. But the runner-up was beaten in a Group-3 start to this season in the Fontainebleau.
AD Billesden Brook
Another one exposed. Good form until only fifth to Laurens in the May Hill, starting 2018 with fourth in the Nell Gwyn.
BC Vitamin; B Teppal, Worship; C Bye Bye Baby; D Eirene, I Can Fly; E Madeline; = Sarrochi, Sizzling
MOSALIM IS ANOTHER HAGGAS NAP
2.40 Musselburgh Harome, 15.0 on BETDAQ early mouse, has won a couple of times on his second run back after a break. Has a good draw for an in-form yard.
With five wins from seven runs, Lydiate Lady is now up 29lb, while other market leaders, Royal Brave, Tanasoq and Suwain all have high stalls to cope with.
3.40 Musselburgh William Haggas, who had four winners yesterday, spends the petrol money with one each sent to Musselburgh and Chepstow today.
Mosalim (clear favourite at 2.66 on BETDAQ early mouse) won eased down at Chelmsford which suggests he has a bit in hand on this tight handicap.
Tribal Warrior needs to find more, raised in grade. It’s the second time he’s stepped up from class 5. The first time, he was only fourth of six at Wolverhampton.
Both Dubai Acclaim (form figures 2212) and Montague (2222) are bridesmaids, with Dubai Acclaim unable to cope with a rise into today’s class at Newcastle in January.
4.40 Musselburgh (Goliath Cup) It’s like a horror movie: they chop his bits off, put a hood on him and tie his tongue down; then send him to Scotland (the unkindest cut of all).
Will all that result in victory for Al Ozzdi? It may well do (at 5.5 on BETDAQ this morning) with Simon Crisford having a high percentage of winners with his long-haul travellers.
But it’s way the wrong time of year to expect three-year-olds to start beating older horses, though I can see the point of taking on four in the field with welter weights of 10st or more.
However, one of them, the ex-Gosden Mooltazem (16.0 in the BETDAQ orange as I write), deserves another chance after being hampered out of his first start for Michael Dods at Nottingham.
Very lightly raced. The form of his second to Salt Whistle Bay at Nottingham in October was franked by the winner earlier this week, and the runner-up in the Nottingham race a fortnight ago also won this week. I’ll save on the favourite, Trading Point.
ROBERO A REAL PLOT HORSE TONIGHT
7.30 Newcastle More than one of the 200 Racing Post experts are ballyhooing Golden Steps but he’s always needed two runs back to put him right.
And one other of the 200 could tell his colleague that trainer Jim Goldie has gone 77 days (59 runners) without a win and tops the Post’s own ‘Cold Trainers’ list.
So, win or lose, Golden Steps is not for me. What appeals to me more is that Mick Easterby has managed to get the blind side of the handicapper, and add a claim, to get Robero’s weight down 13lb below his mark in class 2 (fifth in the Bunbury Cup) last summer.
He’s a winner on firm ground. He’s won here after a five-day break (it’s six days this time). And that claimer in the plate, Harrison Shaw, has a 38% record for the yard. I took 6.8.
