BANKER DOUBLE TODAY: Nicky Henderson looks set for a double today at maximum stakes the two (and with Daq Multiples to boost the takings)!
NATIONAL HOPES HIGH: Chepstow hopes were high this morning that the December 27 postponed Welsh Grand National can be run tomorrow.
THE ROC FOR YOUR DAQ MULTIPLES
12.45 Doncaster Nicky Henderson should land his 10th winner since Boxing Day via Vyta Du Roc, despite top weight, with Fred Winter runner-up Bouvreuil struggling for a first win in 14 months, as the Paul Nicholls stable remains under a cloud.
Legal Exit, at one time very highly regarded by Jim Culloty – third to Un De Sceaux in a beginners’ chase at Fairyhouse – could bounce back for Tom Lacey’s burgeoning Hereford yard, which is in acey-deucey form (120212), albeit all with hurdlers.
Lacey has landed a couple of gambles with Singlefarmpayment, including at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day, and now hopes he will get a decent mark at the Festival in March.
1.20 Doncaster Taylor and Kashtaree have scored only on soundish surfaces. Fountains Blossom hasn’t won over hurdlers, full stop; though he showed better form at Taunton on the last day when short in the betting for the first time.
But this looks like a match between CD-winner Iron Butterfly (up 7lb) and Donnas Pride, runner-up in a BETDAQ-sponsored race here 10 days ago. I prefer Iron Butterfly on stable form.
1.50 Doncaster I tipped Le Prezien in November before the Paul Nicholls’ doldrums but he was no match for 4-1 on Yanworth.
Both Yanworth (Grade-2 novice) and Le Prezien have scored since and, despite his giving weight all round, Le Prezien should be hard to beat here, as one not so far stopped in his tracks by the ‘Ditcheat lurgy’, or whatever is going on there.
Unbuckled has a quality pedigree and has already won over today’s course and distance, though she was getting the mare’s allowance and the favourite (pulled up) ran below expectations.
HE’S A JOB HORSE STEPPED UP IN TRIP
2.25 Doncaster Lucinda Russell, who landed a double at Musselburgh on Monday, had hoped to bring Mysteree back to abandoned Wetherby today after a bloodless victory in a two-horse race there in early December which, nevertheless, earned him a rise of 3lb and topweight here.
The Ramblin Kid had been going well before he tumbled away the money with a bad mistake when favourite at Newcastle.
Mercers Court comes late to fences and seemed to prefer top of the ground over hurdles. Similarly, Leanna Ban’s chasing career didn’t start until he was eight and his two wins from two last Spring were also on a sound surface.
Pure Poteen travels up from Bath after scoring at Chepstow. Raised 8lb for that, although it was a race for conditionals, and raised again for his subsequent Warwick second.
Two winners at separate Catterick meetings have broken a long, losing run for Don McCain, whose Askamore Darsi hasn’t been bigger than 5-1 for seven races in the last year or so. Has won one.
Lovely Job, reckoned a three-mile chaser by McCain, was promising in his first run over fences for new trainer, in-form Fergal O’Brien, and now gets his chance at the 3m.
2.45 Lingfield Firxst Mohican is a seasoned class-2 performer, and Alan King has had 13 out of his last 16 runners in the first four, five of them winners.
But Barye is four times a winner on a man-made surface and has age on his side. He holds The Steward (back in cheekpieces today) on last-dy winning form over CD here at Lingfield.
Blue Surf goes well fresh and his only AW run was second on this course. The snag is he’s won only opnce since October, 2012, and there’s a question mark over the form of his stable.
THROW IN SPEAR FOR THE DOUBLE
3.00 Doncaster Nicky Henderson can land a double of bankers today as he goes for a hat-trick of five-year-old winners in this race with Divine Spear, a big Oscar gelding whose destiny is no doubt chasing. Ditto for John Jenkins’ Dalkadam.
Improved should do just that, while Looksnowtlikebrian is a stayer and needs further. A trip should also benefit the Kayf Tara mare Kara Tara, who finished in front of Zakety Zak here at Doncaster a month ago.
3.30 Doncaster In the second division, the consistent Caged Lightning should appreciate the step up in trip. That also applies to equally consistent Moidore who, as a 2m winner on the Flat, may need up to 3m.
It should also suit Ami Desbois, who is brought back from the 3m of his good second here at Doncaster a month ago.
A move for Man From Seville would be significant; three times a winner on the Flat up to 2m, and from a stable in form.
