7-1 WINNER TWO DAYS RUNNING: After Nifty Kier (WON 7-1) on Wednesday, Daqman scored with another 7-1 shot yesterday among four possible returns in race-time order as follows:
WON 7-1 Parliamentarian
3rd 9-2 Cooperess (from 6.8 BETDAQ)
WON 11-4 Chetan
WON 2-5 Churchill
COOKIE RATES THE ASCOT NAP: Before his Fortune Cookies run tomorrow, Daqman has an Irish Rookie as his nap today but look out for some big odds, including a strong case for a 9.8 offer at York tonight.
IT’S THE KING GEORGE TOMORROW: Tomorrow, King George day, Daqman resumes battle with Pricewise of the Racing Post (current score 56-25 to Daqman), with one eye on BETDAQ colleague Donn McLean, who has had two big-race winners out of three.
BE ON SEA SIDE AND TRY 14.0 SIZZLER!
2.55 Ascot (Brown Jack Stakes) Horses aged three and four have won six out of seven. So are we finding young star stayers? Not really; the last two winners have failed to score again.
Galizzi is high in the handicap after winning at Goodwood in June; there’s not much on York form between that one and Nakeeta, who may have been flattered in the Chester Cup, where the turning track kept him concentrating.
Boite also won at Goodwood in June but that was his first victory since 2011 and it takes him up to top weight here.
Sea Of Heaven was hanging on firm ground at Newbury or might have won. But he was still the ‘moral’, beaten by less than the weight he was giving away.
The snag is that he’s due to go up in the handicap and is having to race here only a week after Newbury.
Though Bill Knight has a poor strike rate on this course, he is 36% generally tamed up with Silvestre De Sousa, and his Seaside Sizzler also goes back to 2011 since a turf success but was beaten only a nose over today’s CD in similar conditions in the Spring: 14.0 on BETDAQ.
3.30 Ascot Three-year-olds 6, four-year-olds 4, but with Ryan Moore deserting Delve and opting for Irish Rookie who drops out of the Pattern for the first time since November, 2014, after running in six Group 1 races.
Her best efforts: second in the French 1,000 Guineas and third in the Sun Chariot at Newmarket. Moore is 2-2 riding for her yard.
Mix And Mingle was seventh in the Newmarket 1,000 Guineas, but trainer Chris Wall has a poor strike-rate this season and is just 1-34 at Ascot.
Black Cherry has some quality form at around this Listed level (holds Muffri’ha). Red Box could improve but needs to.
Light and Shade deserves this crack at some black type but detests the whip and it’s hard to see hands and heels being quite enough in the finish of this one.
IT ALL POINTS TO PRIMROSE AT YORK
4.35 Ascot Robot Boy, a well-backed favourite, was only fifth in this in 2014, and was pipped by Royal Birth over CD in today’s conditions earlier in the month.
Both are drawn low, whereas they came from stalls 13 and 14 for their one-two.
On a line through Gamesome, Final Venture (drawn 16) has plenty in hand on Alpha Delphini but is turned out quickly under a penalty.
The ground may be too firm for Caspian Prince.
Winner of this in 2011, Medicean Man, runner-up in the Kings Stand at age nine last season, has a handy stall 15, and BETDAQ offers of 10.0 are fair.
Primrose Valley (in 11) likes to hear her feet rattle and is well handicapped now, her stable coming to this with form figures of 1121. Offers of 9.8.
7.30 York In the year of royal winners, Sir Michael Stoute is top of the Buck House Christmas card list, and he can prime the buck’s fizz for Dartmouth tomorrow with Diploma today, returning to her winning CD.
Fireglow has not lived up to her Spring form (fourth in the Newmarket 1,000 Guineas) but, as always to presage Goodwood, the Mark Johnston yard +is going well.
