THE NAP WINS AT THE DOUBLE: Daqman landed two winners from three bets yesterday. His nap, (Purser WON 4-9), was coupled with Dawaaleeb (WON 11-8) in his Daq Multiples doubles. Both were at the Lingfield AW meeting

DETTORI IS NAPPED AT ASCOT: Who else rides the track so well? Who else tips so many winners there? Put the two together as Ascot opens the weekend’s big meetings and you have Daqman napping a Frankie Dettori ride.

EMPIRE FIGHTS BACK: 16.0 BETDAQ

2.00 Ascot There have been big fields all the way in the four years of this race, and no horse drawn below eight has finished in the first two.

The last two winners meet again, Cricklewood Green (from stall 18 in 2015) and Gothic Empire (from 9 last year). They ‘swap’ stalls today.

Cricklewood Green, now out of stall 9, is a 4lb higher because he won over today’s CD again in July but is claimed off for 5lb.

Gothic Empire has been out of form and is now 2lb lower, 5lb if you allow wee Georgie Wood his full claim from gate 18. The Dark Angel gelding showed signs of a return a grade higher (hampered) on the last day.

The morning favourite, Alaadel, is a likely improver, always looking to need this step up from sprints, but has a prohibitive stall in 4. So, too, Hajjam (in the one stall), and High Acclaim (in 3), who has dropped down the grades.

The grey Crafty Madam is on the upgrade but three-year-olds have never won this. Esprit De Corps is usually thereabouts but hasn’t scored since his maiden, always a bad sign.

Shady McCoy (from 17) is down from class 2 and has Ryan Moore to help but he’s won only once in the last two years, so yer man will have his work cut out.

My Amigo, from the adjacent stall, has claims (cheekpieces first time for only his fourth start of the season), with the stable flying. I took a bit of 16.0 Gothic Empire and 19.0 My Amigo on BETDAQ.

2.35 Ascot Marcus Tregoning’s yard has belatedly come good in the last two weeks, and Storm Ahead is a class-2 winner back to form over the Ascot CD on the last day.

Zwayyan drops down to his best trip, is blinkered first time and back with his winning partner of last season, Frankie Dettori, who rides this track so well.

Heavens Guest returned to form on the last day but is seven now, has never won over today’s trip and hasn’t scored since the summer of 2015.

One Word More is another who remains on a long losing streak despite recent help from the handicapper, though did show up well at the Cambridgeshire meeting.

Of the two AW-only winners, Golden Goal and Sibilance, the grey filly Sibilance, who has been racing at Group and Listed level, should surely show in this company. But Zwayyan (4.1 BETDAQ) seemed the one most likely to.

BINGO! LET’S ALL CALL HOUSE

3.45 Ascot (Noel Murless Stakes) Zenon has won over today’s trip but, though he’s a son of Frankel, stablemate Weekender, who started the year over 1m 2f, is asked to step up to a Leger distance today under Dettori, and looked like he needed it at Newbury. Who knows; he might break new ground for his famous sire.

But Irish St Leger third, Mount Moriah, and Doncaster St Leger seventh, Raheen House, have already been playing this game at Group-1 level.

They are just about level on the ratings at these weights, but Moriah’s mark looks dragged up by the company he’s kept. His winning form is in a class-3 handicap, and Raheen House could be too strong. Tasty at 5.0 on BETDAQ.

4.55 Ascot (Gordon Carter Stakes) This is Big Easy’s Cesarewitch. He hasn’t raced on the Flat since that 2014 triumph and is 10 now but scored over hurdles in the Spring, and must surely have a better chance than Altaayil who has won only his maiden and once had a bridesmaid sequence of five consecutive seconds.

Younger horses do well in this (three-year-olds 5, four-year-olds four) and seven times out of 10 they come from the low five stalls.

So we could see an improved performance from Mister Manduro, first time in blinkers. Stablemate Dominating and John Gosden’s Master Singer should be thereabouts but it’s hard to enthuse about them.

At the weights, I fancy With Pleasure, another who could show the benefit of George Wood’s claim. Has been steadily climbing the grades without attracting too much attention from the handicapper. He’s around the same 10.0 as Big Easy on BETDAQ.
