MISSILE LAUNCHES THE DAY
⭕ 12.32 Southwell Alligator Alley and Bergerac dropped down from class 2 to earn some winter corn in this the last two years.
Bedford Flyer did something similar in a class 4 just over a year ago at Lingfield but I prefer Ziggys Missile, 2-2 at Southwell.
Ziggys Missile tried it on at Wolverhampton last month and ran really well. It came after a long rest since being beaten only three lengths in the Gosforth Park Cup behind Bergerac.
He won two out of three in less than a month at the turn of the year, and 4.5 on BETDAQ was good enough for me.
POWERFUL IMPROVER..
⭕ 12.45 Ascot Double Powerful has racked up a six-timer in eight months, climbing 45lb up the ranks.
Yet skilful placing by trainer Neil Mulholland has the gelding going for a class-3 hat-trick here, officially getting weight from the top six in the handicap.
There are weight concessions to his rival conditionals but what Dylan Johnston lacks in that regard, he makes up for in the form of his life, including for Mulholland yesterday.
Irish Hill has been beaten every time he’s been put up to today’s trip, while East India Express and Champagne Twist have yet to score outside novice company.
One of them might improve past the selection but 5.2 on Betdaq Betting Exchange this morning (2.27 first two places) was a fair win-and-place bet on the Powerful improver this morning.
HEROS IN UTTOXETER CLASH
⭕ 1.30 Uttoxeter Showers on a soft surface will be ideal for left-jumping Heros de Romay, who is well bred for a chasing career.
CD-winner Flash In The Park is the one to beat. Lightly raced, his level-weights duel here in November took winner and second 22 lengths clear.
IBERICO LORD’S A SUPERNAP
⭕ 1.55 Ascot Last year’s Greatwood Hurdle winner, Iberico Lord, went on to take the big Newbury handicap in February and scored first time over fences late last month.
Ryan’s Rocket beat Lucky Lugger easily at Chepstow, giving a stone but lucky had been a lugger in Points (three times PU) and his improvement this autumn has been place-only in class-4 novices.
Western Zephyr was a stone behind L’Eau Du Sud in the Arkle trial at Cheltenham but, if it’s any guide, L’Eau Du Sud – getting 5lb – was well beaten by Iberico Lord in that big Newbury hurdle.
Assuming the ground remains good to soft, there will be no slog in the mud to make the weight difference telling.

⭕ 3.05 Ascot Winners in this from Politologue to Pic D’Orhy for Paul Nicholls (four in total in the last nine years) but no show from him today or from Nicky Henderson who has more than a nodding acquaintance with this £30k novice-chase prize.
A mark lower than the 143 of Johnnywho and 142 of Mark Of Gold would be below par for a decent winner, and Rare Edition’s second here was to an opponent well beaten since.
Lowest of the low ratings on 131, Personal Ambition’s jumping suggests he will be better suited to fences and to right-handed Ascot.
He’s a tough sort who finds hurdles an irritation but seems to have the style to make into a chaser. Johnnywho is three from three going right-handed.
