DON’T PANIC: DAQMAN GOES ON THE PROWL AT FOUR MEETINGS: Daqman spotted the Willie Mullins lone wolf, Panic Attack (WON 5-2) at Market Rasen yesterday, which prompts him to go on the hunt at four meetings today, hoping for more. He also gave Legends Gold (WON 7-4).

SUPERNAP TODAY AND CHELTENHAM FESTIVAL ANTE-POST PUNT: Today’s column is in three parts: a Cheltenham ante-post bet on yesterday’s winning raider; a Heads Up on goodies to come; and six races for bets today, one of them a supernap and two win-20 bets at Musselburgh and Lingfield.

BIG-VALUE SATURDAY HITS AT ASCOT AND HAYDOCK TOMORROW: Look out tomorrow at the big meetings of Ascot and Haydock for big-race value bets, aimed at the bull (by which he means win-50 targets and Pricewise tips!)

LUCKY 13 BUMPER BET ON BETDAQ

Who else knew? Not many by the looks of it. Or how could a likely Cheltenham Festival star win 10 lengths on a country track and start 5-2 against?

Willie Mullins is rarely associated with ‘hidden horses’ but the filly Panic Attack would have been 2-5 not 5-2 had her true worth been known before Market Rasen yesterday.

At least I reported in this column that I thought it was Willie’s first runner, and Paul Townend’s first ride, at the Lincolnshire track. In fact, Townend had been before: a ride at Rasen was his jumps baptism in Britain 11 years ago.

Panic Attack was promoted 13 second favourite in the BETDAQ Sportsbook this morning, ante-post for the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham festival in March.

GREEN LIGHT FOR SATURDAY CARDS

⚠️ HEADS UP Both Ascot (Clarence House Stakes day) and Haydock are confident of racing tomorrow; both ‘going heavy’; both with seven races. Haydock features the Peter Marsh Chase.

⚠️ HEADS UP Cornerstone Lad and Pentland Hills, both in my ‘young ones’ line-up yesterday, are due to clash in the Champion Hurdle Trial on the Lancashire track, dominated until last year by The New One (four in a row).

⚠️ HEADS UP Four of the other young ones, Abacadabras, Envoi Allen, Honeysuckle and Klassical Dream are all entered for the Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown (February 1).

⚠️ HEADS UP Young horses (aged five and six) are also the key to the big hurdle at Newbury (February 8) the following week; they are unbeaten since 2005 (12 winners from 12). Seven of the last nine were making their handicap debut.

Not So Sleepy, who won the same sponsors trophy at Ascot just before Christmas will be going for a £100,000 bonus, trying to carry a 17lb penalty, in the Newbury race.

Be fair, Mr Handicapper. What is trainer Hughie Morrison’s alternative? He can always try beating those seven young ones in the Champion Hurdle!

FRED CAN GETAWAY FROM HIS FIELD

1.00 Lingfield Jonathan Portman hopes that cheekpieces will give Depeche Toi the hurry up to prevent an Inevitable Outcome!

Luke Morris booked and well drawn for her first handicap with the stalls on the inside, yet 16.5 in the BETDAQ orange.

1.10 Chepstow Ben Jones, who won for me on Legends Gold yesterday, takes a vital 5lb off Lac Sacre, penalised 7lb for winning a similar race in the mud at Ffos Las a month back. I took 7.7 BETDAQ offers.

The Ogle Gogle Man also loves the ground but is building a bridesmaid profile, second the last twice, and was only sixth in this race last year. Pres and Alminar have yet to score outside novice company.

1.45 Chepstow Getaway Fred was sharp enough to win over 2m here at Chepstow in November and the 3m Point scorer, bred to be a stayer, was always going to improve stepped up almost half a mile under Rules today.

Colin Tizzard has a 50% strike rate in novice hurdles on this course and Getaway Fred was worth a supernap on BETDAQ this morning to win 7 for every 10.

STEER YOUR MOUSE TO TAKE THE 3.0

3.00 Musselburgh After Willie Mullins with Panic Attack yesterday, we have another Irish raider, this time a well-known protagonist on the Edinburgh course in Tony Martin.

He thinks a lot about The Mouse Doctor, who wants top of the ground. Today’s Musselburgh forecast (good to soft, partly cloudy) is just what the doctor ordered, and 3.1 actually seems generous.

The Mouse’s good fourth in a Leopardstown novice handicap let the cat out of the bag but he’s raised only a pound and gets into this class 3 off a nice weight.

3.40 Lingfield Jamie Spencer returns today for one ride in this Ladbrokes-sponsored three-year-olds novice stakes at 6.6 in the BETDAQ orange early mouse.

Shouldn’t take much winning and Gregory K is fancied first time for David Simcock, who is among the winners. His sire, City Zip, won three of his first four starts.

7.00 Dundalk Bucky Larson, one of Ger Lyons favourites in the 2018 Flat season, has had his setbacks but returns here as the stable’s only runner today and on 2-3 at Dundalk this year. Backed in to 5.3 on BETDAQ.
