⭕ 1.30 Chester The low-draw bias was evident again at Chester yesterday, despite the movement of the rails, and this race has a 90% strike-rate for horses coming out of stalls 1 to 5.
Animal Instinct, coming out of gate 3 and saddled by course-specialist Ian Williams, could be the better for wind ops. Boosala (stall 5) is a winner at this level with cut in the ground.
Revich, out of the one stall, landed back to back strikes here on soft in 2020. He’s struggled more recently and it’s a big task for Harry Davis (7). Claimers have won this but not with the full allowance, so tricky is the track.
Fools Rush In (gate 4), who has won after a break, is 3311 at Chester, and newly-local trainer, Hugo Palmer, scored here on Wednesday with his first runners on the course after moving.
Another to change stables is Red Mirage (2), who wins when fresh and duly scored first time for Andrew Balding.

SOLID NAP FOR A MAN IN FORM
⭕ 2.40 Chester (Huxley Stakes) Further rain could spoil Megallan’s chance in this Group-2 and I’ll stick with Ryan Moore for a naps treble at Chester. Solid Stone (BETDAQ 3.65) is one of those late developers with Sir Michael Stoute, as a handicapper achieving two Group wins last season. Courageous in a finish.
WAKE UP TO VALUE IN SUNRISE
⭕ 3.15 Chester Cup This is a bit beyond two and a quarter miles yet five of the last eight winners were drawn six or lower, as the runners rail left-handed.
A mark of 91 looks tough for Land Of Winter (stall 4), who ended last season with a runaway win over 2m at Nottingham on the soft.
Free-going Coltrane (he’s in 2) won the Melrose to complete a hat-trick in the summer of 2020. Unable to cope with 11lb rise, though his running style gives him a better chance of a finish here than when ninth in the Cesarewitch that year.
Ian Williams has won the race twice for Dr Marwan Koukash, and Ascot Stakes winner Reshoun (stall 3) was an early punt when the books opened. Williams also saddles last year’s runner-up, The Grand Visir (out of 14 today).
Reshoun gave Rajinsky (1) weight and a beating at Newbury in July 2020 but the Northumberland Plate third has done well since and is claimed off today. However, as I’ve warned before this week, it’s a hard track for apprentices and their inexperience tends to nullify the claim advantage.
I prefer Jamie Spencer on rear-runner Arcadian Sunrise (stall 5 should get him a rails position); he comfortably beat Rajinsky at York in August.
Spencer – and Arcadian Sunrise – are at their best coming through late. The jockey has won this Cup twice since 2013, including with an eight-year-old, only the second winner of that age since Sea Pigeon in 1978.
Rajinsky’s local trainer, also saddles Solent Gateway, a winner over 10 furlongs at Epsom on Derby Day last year but absolutely cruised up here at Chester when suddenly hiked to 2m. Promising third in the Great Met last month.
Falcon Eight defied stall 10 to win last year. Frankie Dettori is back on board at the double from gate six, just 5lb higher. The Falcon has been saved up for a repeat, fit from hurdling.
Daqman’s verdict: Irish-raider Arcadian Sunrise (BETDAQ 8.2) is very lightly raced for an eight-year-old, and landed a notable summer double last year at the Galway Festival and York Ebor meeting. Solent Gateway (5.7) loves a turning track and has been well prepared for this. Falcon Eight is third best.
