DAQMAN HAT-TRICK OF NAPS AND THREE WINNING DAYS IN A ROW: Daqman has landed a hat-trick of naps inside three consecutive days in profit, totalling 34.50 points from five winners of nine races. Can he match the 11 winning days out of 12 (making 160 points profit), completed on August 20? No pressure today then, Daqman!

✔️ WON 4-1 HARRISON POINT
✔️ WON 4-6 MARINE ONE (nap)
Wednesday: profit on the day 17.60
✔️ WON 9-2 MILITIA
✔️ WON 3-1 AUTHOR’S DREAM (nap)
Tuesday: profit on the day 3.40
✔️ WON 13-8 STAG HORN (nap)
CURRAGH BEST BET AS ENGLISH RACING RUNS INTO MORE STORMS: Weather worries, including forecast of thunderstorms at Goodwood, have Daqman concentrating on quality at the Curragh this afternoon, where he claims to have found ‘towering’ value for the nap. Whatever, the word has to be caution today, save your cash and your hope for tomorrow.
MEGALLAN HUB OF DAQ MULTIPLES
Famous last words. The ground is getting better. The sun will shine tomorrow. I think I stirred Hope in with Forecast for a racing cocktail, which has been shaken – and stirred! – by more bad weather.
It’s soft all round again, and the Goodwood card bears the going description: Soft. Thunderstorms.
A short-priced one with nap potential caught my eye, but Megallan sweated up first time out and won on firm ground. What will he make of soft ground and thunderstorms?
So I’ve basically looked at the English racing for some gentle Daq Multiples, while hoping that form that’s being ignored at The Curragh gives me a value nap and some craic in the Irish Cambridgeshire.
⭕ 3.00 Goodwood (Ladbrokes Handicap) Cinnabar steps up to 2m, getting 19lb from the penalised Noonday Gun. That’s a big difference between them.. so is the 9.9 Cinnabar over 2.4 Noonday Gun in the BETDAQ orange.
⭕ 3.45 Newmarket Horse of the day could be Megallan, entrusted to Martin Harley for the second time this month after scoring easily on this same course.
The Kingman colt out of a half-sister to Golden Horn was odds against on BETDAQ this morning, and I hope to see similar play in the market that saw us taking a position before Marine One went odds on nearer the ‘off’ yesterday.
CONTRADICTIONS AND 21.0 ‘LOGIC’
⭕ 3.40 The Curragh (Irish Cambridgeshire) Jassaar won this last year, ploughing a lone furrow down the wide outside from stall 24 (of 25). He’s in 2 today.
The rail is where most of the action is until the final furlong or so, and stall 2 has taken the prize twice in the decade, but 19, 24 (twice) and 27 have won for four years now as the rail race takes it toll and those further out have conserved their energy.
The shortest SP of the winner in the decade has been 9-1, and 20-1 (two) and 25-1 shots have won four times.
Consistent, so seems hard to keep Njord out of the frame. He’s 18lb higher than for his last success but meets Saltonstall on level terms, after giving him 7lb and just failing to catch him at Galway.
Another one-two, between Flaming Moon and So Suave here at the Curragh earlier this month, now sees them equalised by the handicapper.
There was a similar outcome when they met last year in Flaming Moon’s maiden, so this is third time around, and 2-0 to Flaming Moon.
The unlucky horse last time they met was Mythologic, hampered and not clear run, now better off with both at the weights, but (there’s always a ‘but’ isn’t there), he is again in the one stall. So get out of that, Wayne Lordan!
Laughifyouwant about a stall 13 draw but trainer Ger Keane says the horse ‘grows another leg’ when the ground is soft. Colin Keane rides.
From that draw, he’ll be able to tuck in, conserve his energy, and then go around the pack at the finish. That’s the hopeful view, but he’s never won beyond 7f.
Agitare agitates me: placed in two Group traces and never ever out of the first four in his eight-race CV, but still a maiden.
Then again, this field, generally, agitates me. It’s full of contradictions. I’m Keane on BETDAQ 13.5 Laughifyouwant and 21.0 Mythologic for a punt.
AVON IS TOWERING BETDAQ VALUE
⭕ 4.10 The Curragh (Round Tower Stakes) While the fillies’ Flame Of Tara Stakes at 2.40 hasn’t produced very much – though people remember Chrysanthemum – this second Group 3 for juveniles his given us a champion 2yo and leading 3yo sprinter, US Navy Flag and record-breaking July Cup winner, Ten Sovereigns, all in the space of three seasons.
They were part of a four-timer for Aidan O’Brien, who goes for a fifth consecutively today with Chief Little Hawk.
Fourth in the Molecomb, his step up to 6f on the soft produced a last-gasp defeat of Monaasib from a big field in the valuable Ballyhane last week.
Five weeks previously, Monaasib had failed by a length and threequarters to hold off the challenge of Teresa Mendoza (rec 5lb). It looks close between them.
But, in fact, the class call of the race is another Colin Keane ride, Coill Avon, pushed clear to beat St Mark’s Basilica over today’s CD before that one ran fifth in the Group-1 Phoenix Stakes to Lucky Vega, then beat 17 others in a third successive Curragh outing.
Just behind him in the Phoenix was Steel Bull who had Chief Little Hawk back in fourth when he won the Molecomb.
The 6.6 Coill Avon on BETDAQ is big value, four points clear of Teresa Mendoza who just edges Chief Little Hawk for pole position in the market.
