9-2 DAQMAN NAP AND 50-1 PLACE: Rockett by name, rocket by nature! Daqman landed a Gowran Park nap at 9-2 yesterday, after watching 50-1 Wolf Moon close down the odds-on favourite Palladium at Huntingdon, though he was being offered at 100.00 turning for home.

YESTERDAY: Profit on the day: 22 points
WON 9-2 NICK ROCKETT (nap)
WON 100-30 WILLIAM DEWHIRST
WON (w/p 2nd 50-1) WOLF MOON

WOLF KNOCKING AT THE DOOR

MOON rise! Daqman’s whisper against Palladium yesterday, Wolf Moon (100.0 in running), was the only one to give the winner a race, the more surprising because of his size.

Without being impressive, a sleek and more experienced Palladium made most but the bigger and bolder once-raced Wolf Moon, scythed through the vanquished field and got within a length of the dual Derby winner at the last, despite giving 13lb.

Palladium will improve over hurdles but doesn’t look Cheltenham material and may return to the Flat. Wolf Moon will do well as a chaser, after picking up a hurdle or two along the way.

SNOWDEN’S FAVOURITE

⭕ 3.00 Sandown (Grand Military Gold Cup) Farceur Du Large won this last year (Fil d’Ariane 15-lengths third) and went on to complete the double in the Royal Artillery Gold Cup over the same CD in February.

Winning trainer, Jamie Snowden, returned to form at Huntingdon yesterday, and this race is a real gold cup to him.

Following her autumn big-race blitz, Venetia Williams has had a fairly quiet spell, including unfancied runners at 12-1, 22-1 and 33-1 this week.

But on Tuesday the money was down for two hot favourites at Leicester and they duly landed a double for the stable. Her runner in this, Hold That Taught, scored back to back in the autumn.

FAULT IN FULL STRIDE

⭕ 3.35 Sandown It goes without saying that Il Va De Soi has the right trip and ground today (did you see what I did then?) but Harry Derham is on a shocking sequence of losers: 30 runners this year without success.

Olly Murphy and Sean Bowen are both in full stride with faith in Dominc’s Fault justified by six lengths at Lingfield, despite the steadier of 12st 1lb.

Though penalised for that and up a grade in consequence, the Camelot gelding has 10lb less in the saddle.

It’s a very similar situation for Loverdose, who is 1121 since he’s been handicapping and who goes so well for Harry Kimber.

Pushing them down the handicap is Spirit d’Aunou, who has yet to recover from 24lb in total penalties after five out of six in 2023. His stable hasn’t had a Jumps winner in 36 attempts since Boxing Day.

At the weights, High Game Royal should make them fight for this, dropped back in trip, but his record of 11 times placed but only once a winner suggests that he doesn’t have the fight himself.

HE’S SOLID AS A ROCK

⭕ NAP OF THE DAY (12.55 Doncaster) Salt Rock was a hidden horse when switched to fences at Hereford in December, having been kept to hurdles after an impressive romp in a Point.

He jumped well and came off a strong pace at Hereford to cut down Paddy In The Caddy’s bid for a hat-trick. The 5.6 offers this morning on Betdaq Betting Exchange looked big.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
