FRIDAY STATESIDE: DAQMAN looks ahead to the valuable Belmont Gold Cup Invitational Stakes tonight and has a nap on the evening card at Goodwood.
BIG RACE BETS BACK: DAQMAN has big races to look forward to on Saturday when the Pricewise challenge returns. There are two Group races on the Haydock card where the ground is currently soft.
STALLS WOE FROM NAP: Yesterday’s NAP Kharbetation again played up at the stalls and was withdrawn at the start. So frustrating for trainer David O’Meara that he has a horse full of potential that doesn’t seem to have any inclination to go into the gates.
MULLINS RAIDERS HIT STATES
We’re well accustomed to Willie Mullin’s raids across the Irish Sea but tonight he has his sights set much further afield with a twin assault on the Belmont Gold Cup Invitational Stakes.
Mullins has sent over Clondaw Warrior and Wicklow Brave who gave the trainer a first flat classic when winning the the Irish St Leger last season and was last seen when winning the Punchestown Champion Hurdle.
Clondaw Warrior finished second in the American St Leger last August.
Assistant trainer Patrick Mullins said: “Both have travelled over well. Clondaw Warrior has been to America before and Wicklow Brave has been to Australia so we were confident they’d take it in their stride. They’ve adapted to their surroundings well and have been eating and drinking.”
Adding further domestic interest to the race are the Sir Mark Prescott trained St Michel and Hugo Palmer’s Wall Of Fire.
£178,862 to the winner is up for grabs.
MOSSE RIDING AT BRIGHTON
Not fake news !! Top international jockey Gerald Mosse is riding the roller-coaster of Brighton this afternoon.
Under his new retainer with Phoenix Thoroughbreds he partners likely favourite Gotti who is making his debut for Jeremy Noseda with the blinkers on.
Gotti is a £200,000 breeze-up buy and doesn’t, on paper, have a great deal to beat.
His toughest rival might well be Billy Dylan who showed a hint of ability when sixth of 13 on debut at Newbury on soft ground.
FRIDAY GOODWOOD GODSEND
4.10 Carlisle Eight runners go to post for the stayers handicap which will be a real slog on the soft ground.
Injam won over a longer trip at York last time out – springing a 20/1 surprise – but he’s up 5lb in the weights today which might anchor him off top weight.
I prefer the chances of his grey stable companion Silva Eclipse who was fourth to Injam at York but has sound chances of reversing the form on the revised terms and he also seems to go particularly well at Carlisle – winning both of his previous starts here.
Kensington Star has gone close in his last two starts and should be suited by the longer trip but is totally unproven on the ground.
7.05 Goodwood I’m replying on Mr ‘Godsend’ for my Friday nap. Grieg Hall looks a solid bet in the maiden at 7.05pm – he’s back on turf after getting beaten at odds-on at Chelmsford last time out.
It didn’t look great form at the time but the third from the race, Zack Mayo, came out to run well subsequently at Lingfield and the form needs to be upgraded.
The form of his rivals doesn’t look strong. Meccabah was well held when third at Chester and Tuff Rock was beaten 13 1/4 lengths when fourth at Newbury.
7.25 Haydock Testing ground tonight at Haydock too and the feature is the Listed Achilles Stakes over five furlongs.
Irish raider Gorane misses the race and preference is now for Kyllang Rock who was only pipped a head in a Listed race at York last time out by Fashion Queen. The pair finished eight lengths clear and the going was soft in places suggesting conditions will be perfect tonight when the same front running tactics are likely to be deployed.
