FINAL SATURDAY PREVIEWS: The Grade-2 Cleeve Hurdle at Cheltenham and the Great Yorkshire at Doncaster come under Daqman’s spotlight, previewed for Saturday. Daqman’s verdicts tomorrow. * Cheltenham took a look today and will hold a precautionary inspection in the morning but prospects now look good.

YOU BET CAP’S IN THE AIR!

⭕ 3.00 Cheltenham tomorrow (Cleeve Hurdle) Paisley Park bids for four Cleeve Hurdles in a row.

It’s not only the powerful way he won the Long Walk at Kempton on Boxing Day but what he beat.

The second and third were rated 157 and 161 but there’s nothing of that ratings calibre against him on Saturday.

Dashel Drasher (151) and Botox Has (150) are nearest. Gelino Bello was rising in the novice ranks but fell four out in the Kauto Star on that same Kempton Christmas card.

⭕ 3.15 Doncaster tomorrow (Great Yorkshire Chase) Freebooter (1950), ESB (1957), Nicolaus Silver (1962), Rough House (1975) all won this and then the Grand National. The race had other popular heroes like Freddie and Charlie Potheen.

Or you might just settle for Alan King’s Ziga Boy, who woke up as soon as he set foot on Town Moor and won three there, including two Great Yorkshires (2016 and 2017).

There is a hat-trick bid this year.. by 40-1 shots! They’ve won the last two. Winning favourites? Just one in the decade.

The punt early doors was on Cloth Cap, who’s dropped 18lb down the handicap since the year (2021) he was favourite for the Grand National.

BELLA OF THE BALL

⭕ 3.00 Huntingdon (Listed mares chase) The admirable mare Zanbella looks the answer to the best race on the card.

Trained by Nigel Twiston-Davies, she has a remarkable strike-rate of 8 wins from 15 starts over fences and seven of those have come in Listed events.

A confirmed front runner she had plenty in hand when winning last time out at Doncaster and pilot Daryl Jacob gets on well with her.

Despite her prominent position in the Betdaq Betting Exchange market she’s not officially the best mare in the race. That goes to the 148 rated Jeremys Flame who makes the trip from Ireland having been outclassed last time out in a Grade 1 at Leopardstown but could easily get tapped for toe here.

MISSION CONTROL

⭕ 3.55 Lingfield Man On A Mission is living up to his name at the moment and bids for a four-timer in this five furlong handicap.

His winning sequence started on the 30 December at Southwell off a mark of 53 and he still looks a huge player off today’s revised mark of 64.

His last two wins have come over course and distance and he’s one of those annoying horses from a handicappers point of view in that he is just keeping a bit to himself and winning by small margins.

He holds a few of these on his run from 16 days ago and the iron might still be hot enough for him to win again.

Main danger is likely to come from Pablo Del Pueblo who dropped back in trip to win well enough at Kempton last time out and should go close again – despite the resulting 5lb penalty.

ALTERNATIVA SELECTION TO FAV

⭕ 8.15 Wolverhampton War In Heaven has obvious claims as the Mick Appleby trained runner bids for a hat-trick after his smooth course and distance win last time out.

His chance is obvious but I just thought Alternativa could give him something to think about. She looks unexposed and a starting handicap mark of 74 might prove lenient.

She ran green last time out at Lingfield and also met trouble in running but still put in a good effort and can build on that promise.

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
