ALL-WEATHER CHAMPIONSHIPS AT LINGFIELD TODAY: After 15 consecutive seasons of success over Pricewise, it’s Daqman 1 Pricewise 1 after Daqman’s Lincoln winner, going head to head into the AW Championships at Lingfield today. Daqman’s Lays Logic is striking at 80% and he dares to defy two more favourites this afternoon. Headlines:

🔹 RANCH HAND MARATHON CHAMPION
🔹 DOYLE CAN MAKE HER A NEW DAWN

NEXT WEEK: TWO GRAND NATIONALS IN SIX DAYS: Next week it’s all about the Jumps in six days which feature two Grand Nationals, the Irish at Fairyhouse on Monday and the Aintree original next Saturday, with daily holiday racing under both sets of rules.

TIGER ROLL WILL BE AT AINTREE FOR THE BOWL: It was announced this morning that Tiger Roll, who dropped out of the Aintree Grand National for reasons of his weight, will now miss Monday’s Irish version at Fairyhouse for the Aintree Bowl. Irish National ABC in DAQMAN yesterday

RANCH HAND MARATHON CHAMPION

⚠️ HEADS UP: Richard Fahey, Willie Haggas and Mark Johnston are leading trainers for winners in these AW Championship Finals so far, followed by Marco Botti, Andrew Balding and Charlie Appleby.

⭕ 2.00 Lingfield (Marathon) Since switching to AW, Rainbow Dreamer has belied his years with five wins from nine and has shot 30lb up the ratings to 110. All have been in class 2, except a third in the Sagaro Stakes (Group 3) at Newcastle.

Handicaps will be tricky now but today his ratings rise is not held against him as this is a conditions race.

Ditto for Ranch Hand, 3-3 on AW and now on 106. The nearest to them in the ratings are horses they’ve already beaten.

Rock Eagle, who went down a neck to Ranch Hand at Chelmsford recently, is 3lb worse off with the winner. Lucky Deal, who had beaten Rock Eagle at Kempton when getting weight, was third.

A form line, bringing everything together, is Island Brave’s defeat of Australis, with Rainbow Dreamer third in a Newcastle qualifier for this in December, Mildenberger fifth.

Rock Eagle had beaten Island Brave a month or so earlier, so – rerating them from all that collateral form – his Chelmsford conqueror, Ranch Hand, wins for Andrew Balding.

BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE value 4.2 Ranch Hand.

DOYLE CAN MAKE HER A NEW DAWN

⭕ 2.35 Lingfield (Ladbrokes All-Weather Fillies and Mares Championship) Four-year-olds are five out of six in this and Team Gosden are 6-14 in the last six days, five of them ridden by Richard Havlin.

Competition is hot in the Gosden yard, Benoit De La Sayette having pinched the Lincoln with a remarkable ride on a Group animal, Haqeeqy .

Today, with Havlin doing duty at Newcastle (3.25 and 4.00), Martin Harley is at Lingfield for Indie Angel, and Benoit is hoping to trump them all again with the apprentice championship on Ayr Harbour.

Indie Angel is top rated and this fillies and mares looks hers for the taking, though her guardian angel was watching over her when she won her (Listed) qualifier from turf Group performer Lavender’s Blue, who got blocked in behind a wall of horses.

Lays Logic: Indie Angel, who swept down the outside that day, has the same problem of the ruck from the one stall this afternoon, exacerbated by a drop in trip here.

Will Harley switch her for an outside run again? Or, in our language, can we afford to risk odds-on this morning (1.81)?

Fizzy Feet has won a handicap here but this is a new trip and her stable is out of form, while Shimmering Dawn is close up behind, third in the ratings, but a CD winner with James Doyle taking over for the first time.

Arafi has improved 19lb this year but is still climbing through the lower grades and needs another stone of improvement if she is to catch Indie Angel, according to the handicapper.

BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE value 5.3 Shimmering Dawn

HE’S THE SPRINT HERO.. BAR NONE!

⭕ 3.10 Lingfield (Sprint) Daqman’s Early Birds had a great Finals Day from this race (2018) with City Lights ( WON 8-1), who would develop into a Diamond Jubilee horse (second).

The runner-up, Kachy, went on to win this for us the following year (2019) in the last running of what for me has been the best event on the card.

Harry’s Bar won the Chelmsford City Cup (2020) before he moved from James Fanshawe to Ado McGuinness in Ireland, where he landed a Listed at Dundalk.

Fizzy Feet in the Fillies and Mares would give a line to Exalted Angel, who beat her a neck in her qualifier here in February (Aberama Gold fourth, Summerghand seventh), after beating Brian The Snail (gave 4lb) narrowly here at Lingfield.

Venturous beat Lord Riddiford and Exalted Angel over a furlong shorter at Wolverhampton, and then beat Aberama Gold, Summerghand and Fizzy Feet over 6f at Wolver in March.

A 13lb rise in handicap didn’t stop Brian The Snail scoring on AW three times over the winter and he’s the type to surge at a first pace near the line.

His trainer Richard Fahey had won this three times in four years before the City Light and Kachy era of Group-quality competitors.

BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE value 6.0 Harry’s Bar, 31.0 Brian The Snail and 7.6 a place

PUNTERS TOO WILD ABOUT HARRY

⭕ 3.45 Lingfield (3-y-o Sprint) Mighty Gurkha gave Zamaani 5lb and a beating at Kempton, Hollie Doyle setting up the race with some ordinary sections from the front.

She’d tried to do the same thing on the same horse at Wolverhampton in December when Victory Heights (rec 6lb) caught her, with Yazaman third and Zamaani fourth.

Different day, another field, but a similar scenario for the Ladbrokes Spring Cup here, when Martin Harley swept past on Apollo One and took complete control of the race.

That was 7f but Apollo had scored over 6f on turf last autumn after running third in the Group-3 Solario Stakes. Seems blessed with pace and class, and the big field and its front-runners should serve him well though, yet again, jockey Harley has a tricky low draw to overcome.

Lays Logic: Diligent Harry looks overbet for what he’s done in lower class against rivals who would be out of their depth here.

BANGKOK RATES THE DAY’S BANKER

⭕ 4.15 Lingfield (Middle Distance) The favourite surely deserves a bet when he’s already beaten the second favourite twice! That’s the situation here with Bangkok and Forest of Dean.

Bangkok won the Listed Winter Derby Trial here for the second year running in February, and looks a lot more talented than this field. I took BETDAQ 1.9. You might squeeze evens or better if you keep your eye on the orange.

⭕ 5.15 Lingfield (Apprentice championship) Put all the problems of draw and pace together, make up a field of 14 and allow only apprentices to ride!

The trick, according to past results, is to be on something with stamina that you can save up from just off the pace.

Ayr Harbour (Benoit De La Sayette), Young Fire (Sean Kirrane), Lethal Lunch (Alex Jary), Oh This Is Us (Luke Catton) and Corazon Espinado (Tyler Heard) have all won over 1m yet at today’s 7f, too.

Simon Dow has pulled an Easter bunny out of the hat in this race before now (33-1 Forceful Appeal in 2017): Corazon Espinado BETDAQ 35.0

Oh This Is Us (16.5) has a touch of class and his March outing will have set him up for a good run, while Benoit De La Sayette (on Ayr Harbour) of Lincoln handicap fame has to be followed against his peers.
