⭕ 1.35 Newbury Rare to see Frankie Dettori take five rides at an ordinary meeting, among them Reach For The Moon, the Chesham Stakes runner-up. The well-beaten third that day had earlier beaten Harrow on today’s track.
⭕ 2.45 Newbury A race of winners, filly-handicappers who all try to raise their game from low-level success in class 4 and 5.
It was not the intention: the race is open to all ages up to a mark of 100. But the field has a highest rating of 87, and three-year-olds only have accepted.
Military Two Step is the likely favourite after a 12-lengths romp at Chester just a week ago. The intention is to run with just a 6lb penalty instead of her revised 9lb-higher handicap mark.
There’s no shortage of quality in their breeding. Maytal is a half-sister to Midday; Quenelle d’Or and Golden Bugle (Dettori) are both by Golden Horn.
⭕ 3.20 Newbury (Rose Bowl) Royal Ascot form of placed horses has been revealed as a loss-maker.
Here is Caturra, seventh in the Coventry, from which second, fourth, fifth and sixth have all been beaten since.

There’s strong opposition. Bosh goes for a hat-trick; Dettori takes over on the easy Windsor winner, Orazio. Frankella, winner of a high-class maiden at the July Meeting, drifted badly this morning, out to 12.0

⭕ 4.10 Haydock The older horse, Asad, weems outclassed by a stone and a half, and Barador’s best form, including third to Mac Swiney in the Futurity, is all on soft ground. A long absence since hoists a red flag.
Fivethousandtoone also had good two-year-old form (Dewhurst seventh to St Mark’s Basilica) and also had a long break until stone last of 15 at Royal Ascot.`
If you ignore his last run, the race is waiting for Mutasaabeq, the Guineas seventh to Poetic Flare, but he too crashed on the last day, a poor effort in the soft-ground Jersey Stakes.
⭕ 5.20 Nottingham Tom Tate provides the day’s ‘hidden horse’. A mare in fact, First Dance likes the firm ground, is down the handicap, back after a break and the Tadcaster trainer has booked Tom Queally for his only mount of the day.

The royal runner, Portfolio, was impressive at Leicester turning over a favourite with good winning form, and Ryan Moore takes over today.
Brunnera (up 10lb) and Renaissance Rose were both hooded for to get off the mark for the season.

PAWS FOR THE DAY’S BULL’S-EYE BET
⭕ 7.30 Hamilton (Scottish Stewards Cup) Meraas tries to repeat last year’s Cup success, 2lb higher but with the benefit of Andrew Breslin’s 5lb claim and operations at both ends (gelded; wind op twice)!
But it could be more painful, giving 17lb to Music Society, who was fifth last year, or 6lb to improving three-year-old Paws For Thought, who likes a turning track.
Staxton is down 7lb on his third in this in 2019, and had Desert Safari, the Mark Johnston beaten favourite, only fifth, in the Ripon Silver Sprint Trophy in April.
Staxton and Music Society are trained Tim Easterby, whose Lampang gave 10lb and a neck beating to Rathbone here in June. Rathbone beat Commanche Falls at Thirsk.

⭕ 8.00 Hamilton (Glasgow Stakes) Title (blinkered first time today) went clear of the Newmarket Pretty Polly runner-up when breaking his maiden in May, and was third in the King Edward V11 Stakes (Ascot Derby) at the royal meeting, only four lengths down on Alenquer, who had beaten Derby winner Adayar in the Sandown Classic Trial.
The Kingman colt Kings Prince is 2-2, eased down at the finish in both, one on firm, one on heavy, and ‘could be anything.’ He’s Mark Johnston’s Great Voltigeur and St Leger prospect.
Tactics could decide this intriguing match and I suggest Kings Prince will ‘do a Johnston’ and – seemingly with stamina his forte – play catch-me with Title. I took BETDAQ 3.0.
