CHAMPION ASCOT RIDES

⭕ TOMORROW: Champions Day at Ascot now has the small-field Long Distance Cup as the first race of the day.

Here is the card with forecast favourites, which reveal a three-way battle of jockeys: William Buick 3 market leaders, James Doyle 2, Colin Keane 2.

12.55 Ascot (Long Distance Cup) Trawlerman; William Buick
1.30 Ascot (Two-Year-Old Stakes) Words Of Truth; William Buick
2.05 Ascot (Sprint) Lazzat James Doyle
2.45 Ascot (Fillies And Mares) Kalpana Colin Keane
3.25 Ascot (Queen Elizabeth 11 Stakes) Field Of Gold Colin Keane
4.05 Ascot (Champion Stakes) Ombudsman William Buick
4.40 Ascot (Balmoral Handicap) Native Warrior James Doyle.

KNIGHT CAN HAVE HIS DAY

⭕ 3.32 Uttoxeter today Harry Cobden, who has just ridden his 1,000th winner in Britain and Ireland, celebrated with time off before just the one ride at Uttoxeter today.

Brave Knight landed a hat-trick, two of them for him, around 2m last summer.

The Knight has not gone on since and this is a first try at 2m 4f. But he’s 2-2 when fresh and the form reads like a Paul Nicholls waiting game. The 9.5 offers on BETDAQ were certainly worth waiting for.

Lookaway has been more or less on the same mark for almost two years now, swapping and changing in trip and size of obstacle.

The fact remains that he has won two seasons running when fresh and this is his favourite track. He has been allowed a holiday and slow recovery from a wind op.

Minella Rescue needs good ground before winter sets in. Despite severe punishment (he was put up nearly a stone) for running second in a Grade-1 novice hurdle at Aintree at the Grand National meeting, he has won since, here at Uttoxeter, and been raised again.

PROGRESSIVE KINSWOMAN

⭕ 4.50 Haydock With form figures at the track of 1012103, last year’s winner Trilby need doff his cap to no one. But a progressive William Haggas three-year-old is always an exception.

That’s Kinswoman, half-sister to Group-1 Lockinge winner Audience for John Gosden.

Kinswoman has climbed 12lb this year, race by race, with handicap returns of 22112.

Put two wins together in August and can do a back-to-back feat in October after a head second at York a week ago.

BALDING’S BIG ADVENTURE

⭕ 4.55 Newcastle Andrew Balding sends Best Adventure on a solo raid to Newcastle, where he wins handicaps at prices which have produced a level-takes profit of 40 points.

And his chosen jockey today is Silvestre De Sousa, who has a 50% strike rate for the stable.

It’s a race Balding won a year ago with a three-year-old off a similar rating after also dropping down the grades. Betdaq Betting Exchange 8.4 taken.

WIND SHAKES THE BARLEY

⭕ 8.30 Newcastle LAYS LOGIC: In her first attempt on Barleybrown here at Newcastle 17 days ago, Hollie Doyle was closing on Second Fiddle at the business end.

Barleybrown is around a stone better off in today’s race and this is his time of year.
Ruth Carr’s gelding was 13123 here at Newcastle from late September through October 2024.

Hollie Doyle keeps the mount and BETDAQ 8.6 against Barleybrown, with evens a Lay on Second Fiddle, are unlikely to remain.

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
