🏆 CHAMPIONS DAY: Update and Final Champions Day preview: 3.45 Saturday, Champion Stakes (British Champions Middle Distance).

❌ MEETINGS OFF: Uttoxeter and Fakenham today have been cancelled, joining Haydock. That leaves only Redcar on turf, with an evening meeting on Tapeta at Newcastle.

MORE RAIN ON THE HORIZON

⚠️ HEADS UP It was ‘unlikely’ Ascot’s British Champions card tomorrow would have to be called off, the BHA declared this morning.

But more rain was possible and some races may be switched to the round course on the inner.

Top sprinter Shaquille is the only high-profile non-runner so far. Nashwa and Paddington swerve the Champion Stakes for the Queen Elizabeth 11 Stakes (the British Champions Mile).

The likely favourite for the Champion Stakes is now French raider, Horizon Dore; here is Daqman’s form preview.

WHEN THE BAY COMES ALIVE

⭕ 3.45 Ascot tomorrow (Champion Stakes, 1m 2f, going soft; heavy in places) Bay Bridge came alive in this last year, beating the 2021 Derby winner, Adayar, with Baaeed (1-4 favourite) failing to act on the good-to-soft ground, fourth.

Adayar (third) and Bay Bridge (fifth; stumbled start) had been behind the ready winner, Mostahdaf, at Royal Ascot (good).

Mostahdaf, a soft-ground winner in his early days, beat Nashwa and Paddington in the York International this August (good to firm).

Horizon Dore made it four in a row (all on good to soft) over 1m 2f when winning the Prix Dollar at the Arc meeting.

But he is officially a pound behind Derby runner-up King Of Steel, third to Hukum in the King George, when Point Lonsdale, who did a soft-heavy-ground double in the Spring, was eighth.

The Champion Stakes tally of the generations in the decade is 4yo 4, 3yo 3.

HOPING RIVER RUNS WELL

⭕ 3.20 Redcar (5f Sam Hall Memorial) Sam Hall trained more than 1,000 winners from his Yorkshire base, including four Zetland Gold Cups here at Redcar.

Market Rasen jumps trainer, Olly Williams, has had one Flat runner one winner in October.

He has booked Rossa Ryan for that one’s gallops companion Cubanista, who has dropped to his last winning mark of June 2022.

BETDAQ value 8.0.

⭕ 3.55 Redcar (2yo 1m) John Quinn seems to have dropped out of form (16 losers in the last 19 days) and Puella Law – already a beaten favourite on AW – may be a false favourite here, too, though this step up in trip on turf looks ideal.

Johnny Ringo’s run up to Asteverdi at Musselburgh has been let down by the winner’s flop the last day.

Ribble River’s third to African Spirit at Newcastle has held up fairly well in that the winner was not disgraced (ran too freely, fifth), stepping up to a big-field £100,000 Final in class 2.

Molten Rock is overlooked because progeny of her sire has poor form on soft ground.

Betdaq Betting Exchange 4.5 Ribble River

AFTER YOU, MADAME DOYLE

⭕ 5.30 Newcastle (2yo, 7f) Lingfield winner Elegant Madame was thought worth a crack at the Listed won at Leopardstown last month by Kitty Rose, who has been quoted for the 1,000 Guineas after that impressive win and her second the last day in a Group 3.

BETDAQ value: In-form Hollie Doyle steers the 3.55 favourite. Last time she rode for the same stable in a 2yo race was on 7-2 winner Arizona Desert at Leicester earlier this month.

⭕ 6.00 Newcastle (6f nursery) Miss Rainbow has taken on players of much better class. She weakened only in the final furlong of a 7f contest behind Chic Columbine, a dual winner now on 95.

She was then third, dropped back to today’s trip on today’s course, with the winner, Tropical Air (now on 70) completing a hat-trick.

Mis Rainbow races off 59 here, the same mark as Chillout Charlie but not the same weight: he is claimed off 7lb for this handicap debut, after three qualifying runs.

BETDAQ value: 10.5 Miss Rainbow, 35 Chillout Charlie
