SUPERNAP IN NIGHT-OWLS DOUBLE: Night owls have a double treat tonight: it’s Gosforth Park Cup night at Newcastle and the start of the weekend Irish Derby meeting at the Curragh. Daqman has a supernap.
TOMORROW’S BIG-HANDICAP STATS: First here’s Daqman’s lucky-seven guide to tomorrow’s Northumberland Plate. Then on Sunday in the Irish Derby he goes for an incredible run of eight winning Classic bets this season.
ON A PLATE FOR LUCKY SEVEN
⭕ 2.05 Newcastle tomorrow (Northumberland Plate, 2m+) Stats: The winner usually comes from the top seven in the market. Daqman reveals the draw bias, age and weight range but leaves his selection until tomorrow.
Age: 6, 5, 5, 4, 5, 5, 7, 4, 9, 6.
SP: 4-1 to 8-1 seven winners out of 10
Weight: Six out of the last nine carried 8st 10lb to 9st 5lb
Results by stall: (2022): 10-8-6-16. (2021): 17-15-14-19. (2020): 17-12-19-16. (2019): 7-8-17-6. (2018): 11, 17, 15, 13. (2017): 13-10-8-17. (2016): 3-12-20-18. (2015): 3-15-9-11. (2014): 1-10-8-15. (2013): 4-6-3-11.
ADJUVANT 4-8-13 drawn 7 (Michael Bell, Billy Loughnane); trainer has just struck form; 1m 6f winner, up 5lb.
POST IMPRESSIONIST 4-9-0 drawn 19 (William Haggas, Tom Marquand) 1m 6f winner on good to soft; bred to get the trip. Not raced since October.
ZOFFEE 7-9-0 drawn 16 (Hugo Palmer, Ben Curtis); now 11lb higher than when winning the Consolation Vase last year.
GOLDEN RULES 6-8-13 drawn 10 (Deborah Faulkner, Oisin Murphy); Ascot Stakes fourth (2m 4f) last year for Team Gosden. Won 2m Kempton AW for new yard.
OMNISCIENT 4-9-0 Drawn 9 (Sir Mark Prescott, Luke Morris). Half-brother to Queen’s Vase winner (on soft) Dashing Willoughby.
LAW OF THE SEA 5-8-11 Drawn 2 (Ian Wlliams, Richard Kingscote). Fourth in the Ascot Stakes; cheekpieces first time.
CALLING THE WIND 7-9-4 Drawn 14 (Richard Hughes, Neil Callan). Stays forever but countless places for just two wins in the summers of two and three years back.
In the frame in long-distance feature races: Cesarewitch, November Handicap, and Queen Alexandra (twice).
BADRI IS STILL GOING STRONG
⭕ 6.00 Newcastle tonight (Gosforth Park Cup): With most of those at the front of the market having had four, five – even six – runs this year, we need to find the improver among them or dump them all in favour of something targeting the race after just a couple of outings.
Badri is 10lb higher than when completing a double here in the Spring; but he’s still going strong, with turf wins on two diverse tracks, down the hill at Epsom and over the tough-to-get Beverley track.
Hollie Doyle is here to ride on what could be a great day for her: after Badri she’s on board Nashwa in the Group 3.
Of the older horses in this Cup, I rate Makanah, though he’s eight now. Makanah is still a potent force dropped back to 5f and having his first run on a man-made surface since third in this race last year.
Betdaq Betting Exchange 5.1 Badri, 8.6 Makanah
NASHWA TONIGHT’S SUPERNAP
⭕ 6.35 Newcastle (Group-3 Fillies’ Stakes): Hollie Doyle, who landed three winners at Royal Ascot, is so pressing the pace – four more strikes since – that there’s talk among the pundits of the championship.
Nashwa, who put Hollie on the map with their French Oaks success, swerves the weekend’s Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh for this Group 3 on AW.
Nashwa has not been seen in public since her Group-2 Prix Corrida comeback fourth last month.
Unless, that is, you were the tout spotted on the July Course at Newmarket on Saturday morning as she strode clear of her lead horse in a final gallop for tonight.
Nashwa is 9lb or 10lb clear of anything else in the race, barring the grey filly Heavenly Breath, who was partnered by Hollie when she ran up to Blue Rose Cen at Longchamp last September.
Blue Rose Cen’s rating has shot through the roof on the back of a five-timer which she started in that race and has this year included the French 1,000 Guineas and Oaks.
I’ve now got Blue Rose Cen on 119 and likely favourite for the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood next month.
Meanwhile, Archie Watson tries to squeeze more out of the grey filly Heavenly Breath, who is on 100, but I don’t think first-time blinkers are likely to help her reach Nashwa on 113, never mind Blue Rose Cen!
Al Husn has been improving in advance of tonight’s race, and there are one or two more interesting runners, but I rate Nashwa a supernap.
IT’S RIGHT UP JAKE’S STREET
⭕ 6.40 Curragh (Apprentice Derby): Joseph O’Brien likes to win this – he’s done it three times in seven seasons – and, when star youngster Dylan Brown McMonagle took it for him last year, Jake Coen rode a fine race to finish third on the 10-year-old Tudor City.
Another year old and Tudor City tries again but Jake has switched to the Joseph O’Brien ride, Lygon Street.
Lygon Street is an absolute unknown but, when books opened on this, he was immediately smashed in three or four points to dispute favouritism. BETDAQ 4.4 this morning.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….
Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
