ANOTHER TEMPEST FORECAST

⭕ 1.23 Sandown The Venetia Williams six-year-old grey, Intimate, didn’t get off the mark in her first season here until March, and now switches to fences off a tasty mark but after a long lay-off.

As we saw yesterday with Flowing Cadenza in the Silver Buck, we can’t always be sure, even with this stable, that they will be ready first time.

But it’s a fair guess that, after leading from the fifth until four out over two fast circuits of Wincanton, Flowing Cadenza will be winning soon, getting our money back and more.

Mount Tempest (pictured below) has won after a break but, significantly, was primed at Bangor for this return to track and trip which suited him so well around this time last year that he won this very race, despite starting at 11-2.

The Moores won the race in 2020, and Gary and John are hoping another grey, Invincible Nao, can last out better than when going down half a length here in a class-1 novice in March after being clear most of the way until headed two out.

Mint Gold has won only on Scottish tracks so interesting he crosses the border – and the Thames – for this foray down South.

QUEBECOIS IN A KEY RACE

⭕ 1.58 Sandown Yet another grey with an outstanding chance, Kingston Pride is likely so named after his sire, Kingston Hill, Derby runner-up and the St Leger winner that put Roger Varian on the map 10 years ago.

The Supreme Novices and the Albert Bartlett are pencilled in since Pride cantered over Land Afar at Ludlow three weeks ago.

It’s a race of six winners last time out, but all bar Pony Soprano have scored twice. It was a modest affair he won for the Skeltons at Exeter. But punters have kept him in the notebook because the runner-up that day when beaten odds-on favourite performed an unusual feat by following up with two odds-on wins one day apart!

Big and beautiful Bill Joyce (three wins from four starts) is bred for stamina by Mahler out of a Flemensfirth mare.

Ballytechno is up in grade and up 8lb in the ratings for winning at Ascot, but he won’t know that and we won’t get any help from it, as it’s not a handicap.

James Owen sees the 3m Point winner as a future chaser, whereas Paul Nicholls is aiming Quebecois at the Turners and the Albert Bartlett.

Nicholls has won this Sandown test with See More Business, Neptune Collonges, Enrilo and Henri The Second.

TRAINERS IN FORM..

⭕ 1.00 Exeter Lowry’s Bar is short-odds at the front of the market again but was beaten favourite at Bangor, second, when Garincha (3-6 over fences) was third, returning after a long absence.

His trainer, Neil Mulholland, is also back to form with 2-4 (still standing). Lord Of Thunder fell two out on his chasing debut at Cheltenham

⭕ 2.33 Sandown Olly Murphy won 3-4 at the turn of the month and scored again yesterday. Resplendent Grey has been out of the frame just twice in two years.

He had a steady hurdles average rating of 126 but has shot up to 143 with two excellent runs over fences, winner at Uttoxeter, close second at Cheltenham.

⭕ 3.20 Exeter This was won in 2018 by the six-year-old The Two Amigos in his first marathon. He would go on to win the 2022 Welsh Grand National.

Pembroke trainer Rebecca Curtis would love nothing better than to show off the red silks of Rouge De L’Quest at Chepstow.

He’s up in trip today and has risen 18lb in the ratings this year. The stable’s last two runners finished first and second.
