Meanwhile, Daqman went hunting with the early mouse, a quick search of the very first offers made in the BETDAQ orange last night for racing today. The bets he found at huge offers were in the 1.20 Sandown (at 25.0) and the 3.05 Exeter (at 14.0).
25.0 DARE A BET IN THE DARK
Know what you want! Instead of burning the midnight oil, I worked on the form of today’s cards yesterday afternoon, looking for mistakes in early offers late last night.
If you know what ‘price’ you want, any ‘overs’ you can grab as a first position make the market viable on the day of the race, just like ante-post betting.
➡️ Darebin (1.20 Sandown): I wanted 10-1 but found 25.0 on BETDAQ last night. This morning’s offers were around 9.4. So I have more than 15 points to play with.
➡️ Belle Empress (3.05 Exeter): I wanted around 8-1 but spotted some 14.0 last night. This morning’s offers were around 9.0.
Because I was not published last night, I have to charge these bets to the Daqman account at the morning prices.
1.20 Sandown Gary Moore targets this 2m handicap chase and is usually thereabouts (form figures) 12P4. Darebin is 33141023 at Sandown, since his third in the Imperial Cup of 2017.
He won over the Sandown CD in January under Jamie Moore and in similar conditions, and is just 2lb higher today.
Gary also has Josh Moore on Antony, but that one’s form is over further (he won the 2m 4f chase on this card at 1.55 four years back).
Darebin was 25.0 early mouse as the first BETDAQ offers appeared on my screen last night. He who dares…
1.55 Sandown A novices’ chase that goes to youngsters aged five and six (9 out of 10) and, though with Graded form over hurdles, Nicky Henderson’s Burbank, who will be eight in less than a month from now, has done very little of note over fences.
Legal Eyes made errors before he scored on his chasing debut, and Sandown is not the place to put a foot wrong. He was left clear when My Way fell at the last.
Gary Moore is on the premises again, but soft-ground-lover Ballinslea Bridge has to hit the target first time after 655 days off.
J P McManus has an interesting runner in Canelo, fourth here in the NH Novices Hurdle Final and jumping novicy back on the course in his debut chase over today’s CD last month but the winner must now race off 143, so Canelo (BETDAQ 4.1) looks nicely in here off 127.
CATCH THE CUBAN IS THE NAP
2.25 Sandown Alan King (4 wins) and Nicky Henderson (2) have shared the spoils in this 2m 4f novices hurdle but have both swerved the race this year.
Must be a programme clash somewhere, or has something frightened them off. Maybe it’s Ofalltheginjoints. Or Emmas Joy.
Ofalltheginjoints is the only horse to get near hat-trick scorer, Boss Man Fred, who is from the same yard as Emmas Joy. But there’s more collateral form among the stables.
House Island just held Does He Know (Kim Bailey) at Ludlow. Now Bailey bids for revenge via Happygolucky, who wasn’t far off (three-lengths third) the impressive Thyme Hill at Cheltenham last month.
3.30 Sandown Gary Moore completes an eight-runner posse today with two in this race, a 2m novices’ handicap hurdle, which he’s won twice in the decade.
There’s been a three-year-old in the field for the last two seasons, and they’ve finished second and fourth, which seems to recommend the chances of Catch The Cuban and Pop The Cork, both winners last time out.
Pop The Cork’s win was in his own age group but Catch The Cuban scored in an open handicap, and the horse that beat him in his previous race has not been disgraced at Listed and Group-2 level since. I took 6.8 on BETDAQ.
BELLE: BRING HOME 14.0 BACON!
3.05 Exeter Emma Lavelle has had three winners from her last seven finishers, including a fabulous Newbury big-race double of the Ladbrokes Long Walk Hurdle (Paisley Park) and the Ladbrokes Trophy (De Rasher Counter).
Ben Jones (5) came to fame when he and a sizzling ‘Rasher’ had them all cooked from four out on Saturday.
Today he does the steering on a mare with bags of stamina, Belle Empress, who is up in trip for the first time, hence 14.0 early mouse in the BETDAQ orange last night.
🏇 HOOFNOTE: As an assurance that I was on to a fair bet, I checked out another well known exchange about my two last night. They had low-liquidity offers of 11.5 Belle Empress and 9.4 Darebin at the same time as the 14.0 and 25.0 BETDAQ, so I felt confident that my early positioning on each race was a profit in itself.
