START OF THE FLAT TOMORROW: Look out for Daqman’s race-by race guide to Saturday’s start of the Flat season at Doncaster, including his verdict on the Lincoln Handicap.

ORANDI IN PLUM LINCOLN DRAW

FLAT UPDATE: Irish Lincolnshire winner, Orandi, trained by Tony Martin, has a top draw (in stall 2) and a top rider, Rossa Ryan, prompting the latest market move in the Lincoln Handicap.

Dual Identity (1), Godwinson (3) and Orne (4) are also potentially favoured in low numbers when the ground is soft.

Karl Burke’s Lincoln current favourite, Thunder Run (out of 19), fourth in the Balmoral Handicap on British Champions Day, has been bought into Scandinavian Ownership.

Thunder Run, along with Apiarist (7), Magnum Opus (16), Midnight Gun (13) and Oliver Show (15) came out top in Daqman’s stats guide to the Lincoln, as distance winners with age and ratings on their side.

IRISH RAID CAUGHT ON THE HOP

⭕ 3.32 Wetherby Followers of the kind of Irish form against Jacovec Cavern’s name won’t be at all put off, though it’s a long time (October 2022) since he scored on the Flat for Mick Channon and he’s been back and forward between the same two stables without success since.

At Cork eight days ago he was clear and all set to win when he came down at the last but before you rush to take 3.0 on BETDAQ be reminded that he is 0-10 over hurdles and obviously quirky.

Jacovec Cavern and Park Annonciade, a winner at Haydock in 2023, are over from Ireland to try to qualify for the final of this hurdles series which takes place in Ireland at the Punchestown Festival. There’s a bit of Irish for you.

The most likely pair are Crazierthandaisy and Blue Hop, with Daisy at 6.0 BETDAQ offers an unexposed mare by Walk In The Park and Blue Hop at 8.1 improved for finding better ground over longer trips this winter.

13.0 ROYAL MER LOOKS WELL IN

⭕ 3.45 Fontwell Diplomatic Ash and Good Friday Fairy are both on a hat-trick mission today.

The differences are that Ash is on a Fontwell treble after two March wins already, one on good ground, and is raised 10lb overall.

The grey Good Friday Fairy won his chase brace on soft and is raised a total of a stone but trainer Ben Clarke insists: today’s race has been the plan.

Call off The Dogs, who has won three out of five Fontwell chases since June, is also up a stone but again trainer Gary Moore reckons he’s saved him for the race.

Level peggings off 12st at the top of the handicap is Next Left, who liked good ground as a novice winner but hasn’t scored in open company, and is now tried in cheekpieces.

They make Royal Mer look well handicapped, as half-length runner-up to Diplomatic Ash here at Fontwell three weeks back, giving that one 9lb.

Royal Mer has dropped below the mark at which he completed a treble last Spring but will need the ground well watered and the David Pipe yard is currently 0-12, though 13.0 on BETDAQ looks a low-stakes value punt.

CHARGING IN FOR BETDAQ 5.2

⭕ 5.15 Southwell James Owen has had 24 of his latest 32 runners finish in the first four and posted a double across the cards at Chelmsford and Southwell yesterday.

He immediately improved summer acquisition Charging Thunder to win three times, two over hurdles after taking a Yarmouth handicap on the Flat at today’s class-4 level with 10st.

That weight today will seem like a featherweight for a hurdler who is in fact a stone lower on the Flat than the mark he had when contesting Graded and Listed races and a Royal Ascot handicap two years ago. Betdaq Betting Exchange 5.2 taken.

LAYS LOGIC: James Fanshawe, who saddles the favourite, Wonder, hasn’t had a winner from 16 runners in 23 days.

Connections have piled on Wonder as market leader three times running in January, February and March, ultimately taking a slow-run three-horse race by a head.

Further Measure is up a grade and a total of a stone after a class-5 and 6 four-timer, three of them here but by only a neck and a head in front when taking the last two here as favourite.
