DAQMAN DATE WITH DEVON NATIONAL: Will Daqman win big races? Will Do, says our man but his bet of that name in the Grand National Trial at Punchestown yesterday was caught on the run-in, second at 15-2. Daqman tries again in the Devon National at Exeter this afternoon, with 6.1 and 6.7 BETDAQ bets.

TOMORROW: Across the cards at Kempton, Fairyhouse and Chepstow

PARROT: FORM TALKING HORSE

⭕ 3.30 Exeter (Devon National) When Art Decco won the West Wales National at Ffos Las, completing a hat-trick in February and March last year, he was raised only 5lb.

The handicapper must have thought he’d already done enough putting him up a stone for the first two legs.

In fact, despite a long break, Art Decco came within a neck of a four-timer over today’s Exeter CD and was pushed up another 5lb for being beaten.

In fact, his Exeter second was the more commendable because Harry Kimber’s claim, which had helped him to the hat-trick, was lost sometime during that break, so he was up 8lb.

The winner of the Exeter race had beaten Art Decco out of sight almost a year earlier. That the gap had diminished to a neck is further indication of massive improvement.

Had his run of progressive form finally run out when he failed to place at Windsor the last day? Well, revised ratings now put him alongside the winner that day, Planned Paradise.

Pimlico Point goes back all the way to Art Decco’s Ffos Las National when he was a shorter price than the winner but unseated rider. He’s 12lb better off and fitted with cheekpieces.

Jacks Parrot was runner-up in the Tommy Whittle in December, which looks good now with the third horse home, Famous Bridge, returning to Haydock to win the Grand National Trial last week.

Jacks Parrott stablemate Good Work is 1-25 over fences and seemingly going backwards; once rated 117, his win came off 108 when dropped back into a novice chase in January.

Fortescue hasn’t won for three years. He went close for Harry Cobden twice last March and has dropped another 8lb for an 18lb slide. Cobden tries again.

Gold Clermont is the money horse. He’s back up to his best trip and ran well the last day but he’s never won in this high a grade and the yard is out of form.

Betdaq Betting Exchange 6.1 Jacks Parrot, 6.7 Art Decco

DEMNAT MUCH BETTER QUALITY

⭕ 2.40 Warwick Demnat looks burdened with weight but is just 2lb higher than for a 15-length strike a year back, his only run at 2m 4f.

He’s tried class 2, and even a Graded chase, since then and the opposition doesn’t look much in the way of quality.
Bidding for a hat-trick the last day, Stormin Crossgales looked over the top, while Major Fortune makes his chasing debut on the back of three poor efforts over hurdles.

King’s Threshold is a once-a-year winner; everything has to go right. In this case, it would have to be Demnat on a down day.

⭕ 3.40 Warwick Casa Loupi is due to go up 8lb but gets under the radar for this handicap, after back-to-back strikes on a Grade-1 track. Lanesborough is the obvious danger but it’s a worry that he’s gone close the last twice without winning and it’s cost him a 7lb rise.
